My experience as an Asian-American in Mexico compared to being an Asian-American in Japan is drastically different. I have enjoyed learning about the different cultures and working at my schools, but there are always some cons. In Mexico, I was obviously seen as a foreigner, but a foreigner that gets lumped in with other Asian foreigners not necessarily Americans. It was difficult to socialize because some locals would assume I don't speak English and use stereotypical mannerisms with me. Once I converse with my broken Spanish, they become more friendly towards me. In Japan, I blend in a little bit more to the local people just because of my physical features, but that makes it hard for other foreigners to identify me as a foreigner until I talk to them. With the local people, they assume I speak the local language and their confidence to socialize goes down once speaking with me. I am working on my Japanese to be a better. I have found that being the one to initiate conversation and having the confidence to share with others is the first step to breaking this pattern. When travelling or living abroad don't be afraid to try the few words or phrases you know in the local language, to build connection. #LivingAbroad #AsianAmerican #AAPI #LivingInMexico #LivingInJapan #TeachingAbroad #InternationalEducation #InternationalSchool #LearningSpanish #LearningJapanese #SchoolCounselor #Teacher #TeacherOnBreak

Feeling overwhelmed by the process of teaching abroad? Not sure where to start, how to land an interview, or negotiate a contract? Iā€™ve been thereā€”feeling lost and unsure. But I figured it out and had an incredible experience teaching in Saudi, Malaysia, and China. Thatā€™s why I created the Teaching Abroad Tribeā€”to give you the tools, clarity, and confidence to navigate the process and secure your path to teaching abroad. But itā€™s more than just a programā€”itā€™s a community. Youā€™ll be surrounded by other teachers going through the same journey, where youā€™ll be supported, seen, and connected. Youā€™ll build a network that will help you thrive not only as you prepare to go abroad but once youā€™re there too. This program is unlike anything else out there. Itā€™s exactly what I wish I had when I first started my teaching abroad journey. If youā€™re interested, this program closes January 31st. DM me the word ā€˜Tribe,ā€™ and Iā€™ll send you all the details!#teachingabroad

I know how frustrating it can be to teach abroad and land your first jobā€”or even the job you truly want. It took me an entire year. Can you imagine? I sent out over 100 applications and faced rejection after rejection. It felt so demoralizing. But I didnā€™t give up. I learned from my mistakes, refined my approach, and eventually landed my dream job in Malaysia. Identifying where to apply and how to interview successfully can be daunting ā€¦ Figuring out how to craft a resume and cover letter that stands out in a competitive market ā€¦ Navigating visa and immigration requirements that seem impossible to untangle ā€¦ And letā€™s not even get started on waiting (forever) for a response after you send in your applications. Iā€™ve been there, and I get itā€”itā€™s hard. But the good news is, you donā€™t have to go through it alone or repeat the same mistakes I did. Thatā€™s exactly why I created the Teaching Abroad Tribe program. Itā€™s designed to help you overcome the biggest challenges holding you back and give you the tools, strategies, and confidence to secure your dream job in a new country. Stop letting these obstacles keep you from your goals. Join a community of educators who are already transforming their lives with the support they need. One of my most unforgettable New Yearā€™s Eves was in Malaysia. I found myself in the middle of a lively crowd downtown, everyone laughing and spraying shaving cream at each other. It was such a simple, yet beautiful way to connect with people and celebrate. I remember thinking how lucky I was to be there, experiencing something so unique during my winter break. Teaching abroad made it all possible. Traveling became easier and so much more affordable. I booked this trip from Shanghai to Kuala Lumpur to Bali and back for just $200! These kinds of adventures were within reach because I took the leap to teach abroad. Iā€™ve created the Teaching Abroad Tribe to help you do the sameā€”to land your teaching job abroad with confidence, and to feel supported every step of the way. Youā€™ll gain the tools, clarity, and community you need to secure your path and start your own incredible journey. Let me help you make it happen! Send me a DM with the word Tribe and Iā€™ll send you the details. Doors close Jan 31. #teachingabroad

One of the best things about teaching abroad is how easy it is to travel. Iā€™ve lived in Saudi Arabia, Malaysia, and China, and exploring from those parts of the world has been incredible. Flights are affordable, and school breaks make travel convenient. This trip from Shanghai to Bali was unforgettable, filled with beauty and joy. Want to experience this too? DM me the word ā€œTeach Abroadā€ and Iā€™ll guide you on how to teach abroad and make your adventure happen next year!#teachingabroad #china #teach #teachersoftiktok #TeachingAbroad

I lived in China for three years, and let me tell youā€”people staring at you is completely normal. Thereā€™s no chill, no shame. Theyā€™ll stare, theyā€™ll want to take pictures of you, and sometimes even with you. At first, it was a little overwhelming, but eventually, I embraced it. I mean, can you blame them? Theyā€™ve probably never seen such a beautiful Black girl in their life! Of course, they all wanted pictures with me!#teachingabroad #china #shanghai#tiktokrefugee #teachersoftiktok
I lived in Malaysia for three years, and it was my very first teaching abroad experienceā€”and I absolutely loved it. I got paid to move there, a car was given to me for free, my apartment was covered, and I even received a free phone, laptop, airfare, visa, and training. My holiday breaks were incredible, and the entire experience was life-changing. I went to Malaysia as a teacher, and these are just some of the amazing benefits I experienced while living there. If Malaysia is a country youā€™re interested in living in, and youā€™re ready to take the leap and start teaching abroad, DM me the word TRIBE, and letā€™s make this incredible life a reality for you!#teachingabroad #malaysia#teachersoftiktok
