Therapists, letâs make this a resource togetherâdrop in the comments what youâve been saying to clients who come in feeling overwhelmed. Every little bit helps! âŹď¸ ⨠Lately, so many of my clients have been showing up to therapy feeling heavyâcarrying dread, anxiety, and worry about everything happening in the world. And hereâs the decision Iâve made: Iâm going to show up as my full, authentic self. ⨠Does that mean Iâm making therapy about me? No. But does it mean Iâm a blank slate? Also no. Because in times like this, trying to be completely neutral feels inauthentic to meâand honestly, my clients feel that too. ⨠This is a hard time for so many people, and that fear doesnât just vanish when they step into a session. Some clients need to know where we stand to feel safe enough to open up. That doesnât mean every therapist has to take this approach, but itâs the choice Iâve made. ⨠Here are a few things Iâve been telling my clients when they come in feeling overwhelmed: â You donât have to carry this alone. Therapy is the space where you can put it all down for a moment. You donât have to be the strong one in here. â Anxiety doesnât mean something is wrong with you. Your nervous system is responding exactly how itâs supposed to in uncertain times. It makes sense that youâre feeling this wayâanyone in your position would. â Small moments of peace still matter. A deep breath, a few minutes outside, or putting your phone down wonât change whatâs happening in the worldâbut it will help you get through the next moment. And sometimes, thatâs enough. â You can care without consuming everything. You donât have to be plugged into the news 24/7 to prove that you care. Setting boundaries with media, social media, or even certain conversations isnât selfishâitâs protecting your energy. ⨠Letâs support each otherâcomment below with what youâve been saying to your clients. Letâs make this a space for therapists to share. â¤ď¸
