Cleaning out my drafts to open up space and came across several videos like this one 🫣 This is the most embarrassing “outward facing” symptom I have connected to my OCD - my tics. I’ll experience a premonitory urge (PU) that leads me to feel like I HAVE to complete a movement. Sometimes repeating again and again as it doesn’t feel right. This may be connected to “just right” OCD, chronic tic disorder and/or a lesser known and researched manifestation known as Tourettic OCD(TOCD). I have experienced this since I was very little. Way before I was diagnosed with OCD. It was often a point of frustration for my family and I was told to “knock it off” and stop moving. While I would try my best to hide and mask it in school, at times I was unable to and was often made fun of. Sometimes the tics are so sudden and the urge so intense that I’ve strained muscles and/or hit myself hard enough to bruise. While I still experience tics more often than I’d like, I have made SO much healing progress and and am hopeful that I will continue to do so! My hope is that sharing this helps decrease my own shame around it as well as increase awareness for others who may be experiencing something similar and perhaps feeling a similar amount of shame and frustration. I know there is still a lot of misrepresentation (and underrepresentation) of OCD but true OCD is not cute or quirky. It can feel terrifying, frustrating, confusing, exhausting, time consuming and, at times, very isolating. To anyone who relates, I’m with you. While I still struggle with some aspects of OCD, I’ve also grown and healed immensely in other aspects. Healing is possible ❤️ #realocd #ocdproblems #ticsawareness #tocd #touretticocd #justrightocd #ocd #ocdawareness
