Day 10 and 11 - Shop Like a Dealer at the Tucson Gem and Mineral Show We came WAY early this year which means we may actually stay late, too. We shall see. We got the rough alexandrite- the faceted start at about 1000/carat but I made sure to check each for color change and they should be affordable. It's always a highly requested item that's often out of budget. The red beryl should also be fairly affordable and I was also able to get some New Mexico pieces that are even more affordable - though lesser quality. The polished pieces are cute and perfect for decorations - and I also made a huge rainbow obsidian haul - can't wait to share it with you. I'm hoping to get more pieces of rainbow obsidian- we completely sold out last night but I do know a place or two to get some more. We buy and sell while we are here but we don't typically sell out before I preview the pieces. These were too good not to show. The South African material is also wonderful and I had such a good time chatting with and learning from the vendor. One of the most fantastic parts of the show is getting the opportunity to talk to, and learn from, the vendors. There are so many incredibly talented experts at gem shows that (when there is a little extra time and asked politely) will share their wealth of knowledge. Much of which can really only be gained in the field (especially stories!) It's always a treat to learn and one of the most beautiful aspects of the Mineral industry is that you can never really know everything. There's always more to learn. More to share soon. We got some really cute flats and some high commercial pieces to start us off. Setting up the table and pricing to do a live sale tomorrow. The live sale room and packing stations are up and ready.
