If you’re anything like me, you didn’t just burn out in vet med—you crashed, burned, and had the rug pulled out from under you. Maybe you’re considering switching to nursing because it seems like the “simple solution.” Spoiler alert: it’s not simple, but it can be worth it. Here are some things I wish I had known when I first started considering this leap: 1️⃣ Research Nursing Paths & Specialties Hospice, NICU, ICU, aesthetics—nursing isn’t one-size-fits-all. Take the time to research different specialties and routes. Look at what day-to-day life looks like for each role. At this point, you’re not committing to anything; you’re simply asking: “Can I see myself doing this?” 2️⃣ Find Creators Who Share Their Journey Check out “Day in the Life” creators and vlogs to get a sense of what each path looks like. Just remember: these are often highlight reels, not the full picture. (I’ll tag some of my favorite creators below for you!) 3️⃣ Dreams Can Change—and That’s Okay I once saw myself pursuing my VTS in ECC. Now? Not so much. Goals evolve, and it’s okay to pivot when something no longer aligns with your vision or values. 4️⃣ Prepare for Opinions Everyone—and I mean everyone—will have something to say: 🗣 “Nursing is just as bad as vet med!” 🗣 “You’re only switching for the money!” Ignore the noise. Your reasons are valid, whether it’s for financial stability, better work-life balance, or simply the desire for something new. 💡 Pro Tip: At this stage, you’re not committing to anything—just exploring. Take the time to think through if this is the right path for you. If you’re considering switching careers, what’s holding you back? Let’s talk about it in the comments!
