Javad Zarif, Iranian vice president for strategic affairs, said Wednesday he hopes President Trump will choose “rationality” in his dealings with Tehran. “I hope that this time around, a ‘Trump 2’ will be more serious, more focused, more realistic,” Mr. Zarif, the country’s former foreign minister, said at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland. During his first term, President Trump pulled out of the Obama-era Iran nuclear deal and employed a strategy of “maximum pressure” through U.S. sanctions. Tehran then breached the terms of the pact by accelerating its uranium enrichment. President Trump has pledged to return to the policy of steep sanctions as a means of bringing Tehran to the negotiating table over its nuclear program and regional activities.
