I am absolutely terrified by this announcement from the Department of the Interior. This agency, which was created to serve the benefit of all Americans, is doubling down on its white supremacist roots by dismantling Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility (DEIA) offices and canceling all DEIA-related training and contracts. This is the kind of systemic rollback that echoes the darkest parts of our history—and it has devastating implications for every marginalized community. As someone who has spent my career working to address inequities in the outdoor and environmental sectors—industries that have long excluded BIPOC, LGBTQIA+, and disabled folks—this strikes at the heart of why I do what I do. My work has been about creating spaces where everyone can feel safe, seen, and valued. The Interior's decision to demonize DEIA initiatives is a direct attack on those of us fighting for equity and inclusion. It’s infuriating and heartbreaking to see DEIA framed as “radical,” “wasteful,” or divisive when it’s about healing centuries of exclusion and oppression. DEIA programs are critical for building workplaces that reflect the diversity of this nation. They empower individuals, foster understanding, and, yes, help us address the legacy of harm that institutions like the Department of the Interior were built on. This decision isn’t just about an agency or a training. It’s a signal to every marginalized person that their voices and experiences don’t matter, that their contributions aren’t wanted, and that the progress we’ve made toward equity is being intentionally erased. We cannot stand by and let this happen. Those of us committed to justice must stay louder and bolder than ever. I’m not just fighting for the work I’ve spent my life building—I’m fighting for the communities I care about, for future generations, and for the values that DEIA represents. This fight isn’t over. And I, for one, am not backing down. #DEIA #EquityMatters #Justice #InclusionForAll #WeWillNotBeSilent
