Combine everything in a pot over medium heat. 2. Stir until the sugar dissolves. 3. After 15 minutes, smash the strawberries and remove from the heat. 4. Let the syrup mixture steep for 30 minutes. 5. Strain and let it cool. 6. Store in an airtight glass container. I always feel weird calling any cocktail recipe an “original” because most every recipe is derived from another recipe, or at least heavily inspired by another one. This cocktail is somewhat of a combination of two “modern classics”: a Paper Plane and a Penicillin, which were both originally created by Sam Ross in Chicago. So anyway, I hope you make one and I hope it cures what ails you. Modern Medicine (Page 24) 1½ oz Bourbon ½ oz Aperol ¾ oz Fresh lemon ½ oz Demerara syrup 2-3 dashes Aromatic bitters Float of Islay Scotch Combine ingredients and shake with ice.
