Popeyes x Don Julio? 🍗 🍋🟩 I made it at home. Here’s how. 🥃 Get my recipe below ⬇️ or on uncledibbz.com [Link in Bio] Ingredients For the Marinade: • 2 lbs chicken wings (flats and drumettes) • ¼ cup Don Julio Reposado Tequila • 2 tbsp lime juice (freshly squeezed) • 1 tbsp olive oil • 1 ½ tbsp Uncle Dibbz Durrty Bird Rub (link) For the Dredge: • 2 cups all-purpose flour • ¼ cup cornstarch (for extra crispiness) • 1 tbsp Uncle Dibbz Delta Dust (link) • 1 tbsp Uncle Dibbz King Creole Blend (link) • 1 tsp baking powder (helps with crispiness) For the Reposado Gold Sauce: • 4 tbsp unsalted butter • 3 cloves garlic, minced • ¼ cup Don Julio Reposado Tequila • ¼ cup heavy cream • 2 tbsp honey • 1 tbsp lime juice • 1 tbsp cornstarch mixed with 2 tbsp cold water (for thickening) For Frying: • 3-4 cups peanut oil or vegetable oil Instructions 1. Marinate the Wings: • In a large bowl, combine the tequila, lime juice, olive oil, and Uncle Dibbz Durrty Bird Rub. Toss in the chicken wings, ensuring they’re evenly coated. Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, but overnight is best for deeper flavor. 2. Prepare the Dredge: • In a large bowl, mix together the flour, cornstarch, Delta Dust, King Creole Blend, and baking powder. Remove wings from the marinade and let any excess liquid drip off. Coat each wing in the flour mixture, pressing to ensure a good coating. Place dredged wings on a wire rack and let them rest for 10 minutes while heating the oil. 3. Fry the Wings: • Heat 3-4 cups of oil in a deep pot or cast iron skillet to 350°F (175°C). Fry the wings in batches, careful not to overcrowd the pot. Cook for 7-8 minutes until golden brown and crispy. Transfer the wings to a wire rack over a baking sheet to drain excess oil. 4. Make the Reposado Gold Sauce: • In a saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter until foamy. Add minced garlic and sauté for 1-2 minutes until fragrant. Pour in the Don Julio Reposado Tequila and lime juice, letting it simmer for 1-2 minutes to cook off some of the alcohol. Stir in heavy cream and honey, mixing until smooth. In a small bowl, mix 1 tbsp cornstarch and 2 tbsp cold water to create a slurry. Slowly pour into the sauce while whisking. Let the sauce simmer for 2 minutes until it thickens into a rich, golden glaze. 5. Toss & Serve: • Remove the sauce from heat and let it cool for 1-2 minutes (it will thicken more as it cools). Toss the hot, crispy fried wings in the Reposado Gold glaze, ensuring an even coat. Serve immediately with lime wedges and ranch or blue cheese dressing on the side.
