STOP throwing out your old furniture! Do this instead 🤭 STEPS I TOOK 👇 - Clean & do repairs - Sand to raw wood (80, 150, 220 grit) using an orbital sander - Mix stain/ paint wash - Wipe on 1 coat of stain, then wipe off excess - Let the stain or paint wash dry for 24 hours and seal with waterbased polyurethane (The stain is a paint wash where you mix about 20% paint to 80% water. Replying to @Jadè After sharing how I transformed this basic IKEA looking media console into a warm, antique looking piece, I realized I should show more in depth tutorials on how to do each step! So first up, here’s what I learned while using gel stain for the first time. It’s really simple once you get the hang of it, but I definitely had a panic moment there! Using a rag to apply, following the direction of your wood grain will make application easy. I do recommend using it on pieces that have at least a faux wood grain, although I know people have used techniques to faux their own! This will change your mind 🤭 Kitchen table makeover How to do it too! 👇 STAINED TOP: - Klean strip premium stripper - Clean residue with mineral spirits - Sanded the top to raw wood using an orbital sander (80, 150, 220 grit) -Applied stain or tan paint wash (a paint wash is where you mix about 20% paint to 80% water. I used Fusion Mineral Paint in the color Algonquin) -Once dry, layer on Rustoleum Glaze in Java Brown -Let it dry for 24 hours, then apply waterbased polyurethane for protection (I used Varathane in Satin) PAINTED BOTTOM: -Scuff sanded areas with my SurfPrep 3x4 sander (medium or 150/220 grit) -Primed areas I’m painting with Wise Owl Stain Blocking Primer -Painted with Wise Owl Enamel paint in Kashmir (it has a built in satin topcoat) #diningtablemakeover #kitchentable #woodtable #furnitureflip #furnituremakeover #tablemakeover #diyproject #woodstain
