I was very clear with potential employers about what I was looking for: flexibility, plenty of time with my family, ability to scale my practice to the size I desired, and support from other physicians. If a potential employer didn’t like that, that’s ok then we weren’t a good fit. I was ok with continuing my search until I found the perfect fit for the life I envisioned after residency. We’re always told to tell people what they want to hear in interviews. And while that was true for me my whole life prior (working in food service, interviewing for med school and residency, etc) that is not true once you complete your medical training. You absolutely should be professional - I’m not talking about professionalism here - but you SHOULD be clear about what you’re looking for in a job. Otherwise your employer will have a completely different idea about your career than you do. What do you think? Any advice to add?
