To the coaches, parents, and student-athletes watching this, let me tell youâthereâs nothing more fulfilling than seeing someone rise above the urge to quit. This young man was a reminder of what heart, grit, and determination truly look like. As a coach, I made it my mission to speak life into him. Why? Because words have power. Encouragement has power. When a young person feels like theyâre at their breaking point, itâs often the voices around them that either push them forward or pull them back. I wasnât going to let him fall into doubt without fighting for him first. Remember, Every step you take, no matter how small, is a win. Every time you show up, youâre proving to yourself and everyone watching that you have what it takes to overcome, And I mean it. It wasnât about whether he got it perfectâit was about his fight, his resilience, his refusal to quit when it got tough. To the coaches: Our job is so much bigger than teaching skills. Itâs about building belief. When you see that spark of doubt in one of your athletes, speak life into them. Let them know that their value isnât tied to a win or a lossâitâs tied to their effort, their heart, and their ability to keep going when it feels impossible. To the parents: Your words carry just as much weight, if not more. Be their biggest cheerleader, especially when they feel like giving up. The foundation you build at homeâthe encouragement, the love, the supportâwill carry them through the hardest moments on the field and in life. And to the student-athletes: Hear me when I say thisâyour journey isnât about being perfect. Itâs about showing up when you donât feel like it. Itâs about pushing yourself when everything inside you is telling you to stop. You have no idea how much potential you have until you push past the limits in your mind. This young man didnât quit. He had moments of doubt, but he didnât give up. And now, heâs stronger because of itânot just physically, but mentally. Thatâs what itâs all about. . . . . . . . .
