and why must most dark skinned characters always have a negative (evil/poor/illiterate/ugly) connotation? the day I see equality and true representation, I’ll be the happiest woman alive. It’s simple. The search for beauty is much easier when you start to open your eyes to loving your own people and the range of shades we truly come as. yes, current Indian actresses are beautiful. But why must we stretch the standard to the point that we make them look unlike themselves just because we can’t fathom the fact that melanated skin is just as beautiful? I’m not kidding when I say this, growing up, I have not ONCE seen a Telugu-origin actress play the heroine role in a Telugu movie. the talent exists but the industry won’t accept anyone that isn’t fair skinned.
