I’ve gotten a variation of this comment a few different times so I wanted to use this as a jumping off point for this discussion that has been on my mind for a while. Im not denying that there’s probably a lot more educational value in exploring the clothing of the everyday working class person, and while my little internet videos are usually educational and I think it’s cool that I can impart little bits of interesting info doing something I love, at the end of the day I’m doing this for myself! I make the clothing that *I* want to make. Sometimes that’s an everyday walking skirt and sometimes it’s a heavily beaded ballgown. Personally I’m not going to limit my hobby to making only things that I would have had access to if I were actually an Edwardian. #historicalcostuming

In the end, I did end up liking the blue dress, but I’m also so happy that I followed my intuition and made a brand new one that I completely adore it. it’s so special to have a project that just really is everything that you dreamed it would be. I thought that it would be kind of a bummer to start over but I enjoyed the process of smocking so much that I was really excited for the opportunity to do it again #HistoricalCostuming #Edwardian #1905 #sewing ##smocking
