On this day, @The Temptations released their #1 hit smash "Just My Imagination (Running Away With Me)" 54 years ago! - Swipe left to learn the story⬅️ Today Temptations fans, is the 54th anniversary of The Temptations all-time classic "Just My Imagination (Running Away With Me)!" It was released today back in 1971 and later on became another #1 hit, as well as becoming their very first platinum record. The story behind this classic is one of my favorites to hear every now and then. Around this time, Eddie Kendricks time with the Temptations was slowly coming to an end. By then, he had personal issues with his bandmate and defacto leader Otis Williams and didn't like how Motown was handling their money. Paul Williams was struggling with health issues due to his sickle cell disease causing him in a lot of pain and alcohol usage to numb it. The road was also coming to a close for Paul as well. Norman Whitfield and Barrett Strong came up with the song in 1969 but they shelved it due to the psychedelic run the Temptations were on at the time. Thankfully, they brought it back when "Unite The World" didn't make the top 30, which was another psychedelic record. During the recording of "Just My Imagination," Otis, Paul, Dennis, and Melvin laid down the background vocals and Eddie ended up staying at Motown all night to record his lead part. The song was released and blew up the charts, eventually becoming another #1 hit song. A few months after its release and reaching the top of the charts, Eddie Kendricks quit the group and went solo. Shortly after, Paul Williams retired from performing due to his health declining. You can say, they both left the Temptations on top. Happy 54th anniversary! "Distant Lover" is the sixth song issued on singer Marvin Gaye's 1973 album, Let's Get It On and the B-side of the second single from that album, "Come Get to This". A live recording was issued as a single in 1974. The live version of the song was Gaye's most successful single during the three-year gap between Let's Get It On and his following 1976 album, I Want You....Here is the legendary #MarvinGaye with #DistantLover #70sSoul #Peace✌🏽Love🖤Respect #Death💀 #Music🎶🎧 #Fypシ
On this day, @The Temptations released their fifteen studio album "Solid Rock" 53 years ago! Swipe left to learn some info ⬅️ Today Temptations fans, we're gonna celebrate the anniversary of The Temptations classic album "Solid Rock," as it was released today back in 1972! This was the very first album to feature two of their newest additions, Richard Street and a young 20 year old Damon Harris. As we all know, 1971 was one of their most difficult years during their success. Founding members Eddie Kendricks and Paul Williams left the group a few months apart for different reasons. Eddie would follow the same steps David Ruffin had done and moved on as a solo artist while Paul followed doctor's orders and retired from performing due to his declining health shortly after. Richard would replace him permanently and Damon became Eddie's official replacement after Vibrations singer Ricky Owens failed to fill in the shoes. Many of us know that Richard Street was a familiar face. He was with Otis and Melvin, including co-founding member Al Bryant in the very beginning when they were known as The Distants. During the recording of "Solid Rock," Paul Williams only managed to record one song off the album. That song would be their re-recorded version of "It's Summer," which didn't make the top 40 as a single. It would be the last recording Paul Williams would do with the Temptations. The album was a success, as it peaked at #1 on the US R&B chart and #24 on the @billboard 200. It also featured some classics, such as, "Superstar (Remember How You Got Where You Are)," "Take A Look Around," "Stop The War Now" and "What It Is?." Tell me in the comments what's your favorite song off the album?! Happy anniversary! On this day, @The Temptations released their nineteenth studio album "A Song For You" 50 years ago! Today Temptations fans, we're are gonna celebrate the 50th anniversary of The Temptations classic album titled after their cover version of "A Song For You!" This album is one of my absolute favorites by the group and it still holds up after all these years. Here are some facts to know about the album: This was the final album to feature the late Damon Harris. He was fired shortly after the album's release due to making unprofessional comments during one of their shows. He was replaced by DC native Glenn Leonard, another great tenor who lasted nearly a decade with the Temptations. This was the first album The Temptations released without Norman Whitfield as their main producer and Jeffrey Bowen took over the position. @Lionel Richie, former member of The Commodores at the time helped produce the track "Happy People" off the album, which is also one of their hit singles. Tell me in the comments your favorite song off of "A Song You!?" Happy 50th anniversary!
