Connecting physical and perceptual-cognitive demands is a critical missing link for ACL patients to return to sport safely. . Changes in athletes’ brains with ACL tears show that they rely more on their visual and attentional systems to navigate their movements. This means they improperly focus their attention internally during movement, making them rigid, inefficient, and at higher risk of injury. . On the flip side, optimal performance comes from athletes focusing their vision and attention externally on the environment around them because 1) it allows their movements to be more instinctive, fluid, and effective, but also 2) it allows them to use more attentional resources on processing information in their environment and making decisions which is essential in dynamic sports like soccer, basketball, football, etc. . We created the SwitchedOn app to make this form of rehab/training easy and accessible so we can help reduce these crazy rates of re-injuries. . Shoutout to some of the incredible researchers/practitioners in this space - @alligokeler @meredithchaputdpt .
