Ifá Names - Importance Of Choosing Your Yoruba or African Name (Part One) All African names have deep, powerful meanings and Ifa names(which are in Yoruba) are no exception. When we replace African names for European, "Christian", Western, Arabic or any names which do not originate from the motherland, in my opinion, we lose connection with the Source. African names are words of power, they are steeped in history, culture and spirituality. There is a sad trend of born again Christians in Nigerian changing their names to get rid of the Ifa or Orisha prefixes to suit their Abrahamic mindsets. To each his own. Some of you asked me for some Ifa names, so here some of my personal favorites. This is part one, so there will be more, as well as names with orisha prefixes and other African names I like. Please bear in mind that your Ifa/Orisha name is normally chosen for you through divination, when you are initiated or do Orisha Determination with traditional Yoruba naming. However, some people like to take on an additional Ifa name of their choice or just want to have an Ifa name even thought they haven't been initiated. Ifágbémilékè Ifá made me triumph Ifágbèmí Ifá supports me IFÁÒDÓJÚTÌMÍ Ifá did not embarrass me. Ifájùwọ́nlọ Ifá is bigger than all of them(your enemies) Ifálolú Ifa is the head Ifásayọ̀ Ifâ brings me joy, I find joy in Ifá Ifádámitán Ifá has created me complete Ifágbémisọ́lá Ifá lifted me into wealth Ifasìnmísọ́lá Ifá escorted me into success/wealth Ifápọ́nmilé Ifá honoured me Ifárótìmí Ifá stands/stood by me Ifásanmí Ifá benefits me African names are often shortened in day to day use, so Ifárótìmí would often be called Rótìmí and Ifájùwọ́nlọ may be called Jùwọ́n. Whether the name is for yourself or your child, think of names as words of manifestation. Contact me for a spiritual consultation or coaching and go check out the store at: https://naijazen.co
