Hurricane Helene destroyed thousands of businesses in Western North Carolina. This has impacted thousands of jobs, including 18 employees who worked for Second Gear in Asheville, NC. secondgearwnc.com To support these impacted businesses, Mountain Biz Works launched the Asheville Buncombe Rebuilding Together Grant and the WNC Strong - Helene Business Recovery Fund. Grants are literally saving businesses from closing their doors. However millions of dollars of grant requests from small businesses were unable to be funded simply due to lack of funds. Hurricane Helene destroyed thousands of businesses in Western North Carolina. This has impacted thousands of jobs, including many local artists who lost all of their inventory, their gallery, and their workspace. To support these impacted businesses Mountain Biz Works launched the Asheville Buncombe Rebuilding Together Grant which has raised $3.69M for small business recovery (supported by MBW, City of Asheville, Buncombe County, Asheville Chamber of Commerce) 👉74% of the awards went to businesses with 10 or fewer employees 👉65% women owned 👉25% BIPOC owned 👉3,000 jobs supported! Grants are literally saving businesses from closing their doors. But, there were $15 million in requests from small businesses that were not able to be funded, simply due to lack of funds.
