What do you do with your newborn when theyā€™re awake?! Know that attachment is built over thousands of interactions that start on day one. šŸ™Œ During this early stage, you donā€™t have to do too much! Just be there with them as they explore their new world. Newborns respond to how we respond to them. This means that when you are hanging out with them, try maintaining eye contact and talking to them in a loving way. šŸ’• Did you know we have a FREE newborn sleep guide? āœØ Access FREE sleep materials at thepeacefulsleeper.com/tiktok/ #babyplay #newbornplay #newmom #newbaby #babysleepconsultant #sleeptraining #sleeplearning #thepeacefulsleeper
Short naps are the WORST! šŸ˜© The crap nap stage can be so frustrating. Youā€™re second guessing if baby got enough rest AND when they should take their next napā€¦ Here are some tips for short naps: ā° Give baby some time: Give them 15-30 minutes to see if theyā€™ll fall back asleep on their own. If they are awake and happy, you can totally let them hang out in their crib for a little. šŸ˜“ Help them continue the nap: If baby isnā€™t going back to sleep on their own, see if some intervention helps. This might be the case if baby hasnā€™t learned independent sleep initiation quite yet. You can finish out with a contact nap or you can attempt to transfer again. If 15 minutes pass and they donā€™t go back to sleep, you can end the nap there. šŸŽ‰ Show them when naptime is supposed to end: Our goal is for naps to be 1-3 hoursā€¦When nap time is over or when they wake back up, open the curtains and start their awake time happy and excited. Over time, this will show that nap time was meant to last a little longer. āœ‚ļø Split the difference to determine the time for their next nap: ā€œSplitting the differenceā€ is a technique you can use if baby takes a too-short nap. Youā€™ll split the time you let them hang out in the crib awake. So, if baby takes a 30 minute nap and you let them hang out for another 30 minutes (and they donā€™t go back to sleep), then split that time they were awake in bake. Count half toward nap, half toward your next wake window. This helps your schedule not get too far off track and helps prevent too much overtiredness from building up Did you know we have a FREE naps guide?? āœØ Access free sleep materials at thepeacefulsleeper.com/tiktok/ #naptime #shortnaps #babysleepconsultant #sleeplearning #sleeptraining #thepeacefulsleeper

Laying a strong sleep foundation can truly help your baby sleep right through teething. Teething doesn't have to mean no sleep! šŸ’” Did you know? You can teach your baby independent sleep skills AND enjoy contact naps at the same time! Hereā€™s the scoop on contact naps: āœØ Newborn snuggles are pure magic! You canā€™t spoil a newborn, so soak up all the cuddles while helping them get solid naps to prevent overtiredness. Itā€™s the perfect way to lay the groundwork for future independent sleep. āœØ Independent sleep doesnā€™t mean no contact naps! If your baby has learned to sleep on their own, the occasional contact nap wonā€™t undo their skills. Just keep in mind, if contact naps become the norm, a habit will likely form and it will be harder to get your baby to sleep independently. āœØ Itā€™s about what works for your family. ā¤ļø šŸ’› Access FREE sleep materials at thepeacefulsleeper.com/tiktok/ #contactnap #contactnaps #newmomlife #babysleepcoach #babysleepconsultant #sleeptraining #sleeplearning #thepeacefulsleeper
šŸ“£ Repeat after me. Sleep schedules are examples! They truly aren't something I want you to try to follow all day, every day. Babies are humans, not robots. They need us to be flexible and respond to their cues instead of the clock. My best advice?Ā  Aim for age-appropriate wake windows and total daytime sleep. Pay attention to your babyā€™s hunger and sleepy cues. And most importantlyā€¦ Stay flexible. Let today's ā€œsample scheduleā€ be just thatā€”a sample. Every baby is different. YOUR babyā€™s schedule will depend on when they wake, how long they nap, and when they eat. We know that our little ones benefit from routines. Just like adults, children feel safe and secure when they know what is going to happen next and they can count on consistency. Babies also benefit from routines! (šŸšØ Remember, a routine is different from a schedule! A routine is a series of steps that are consistently completed, like in a bedtime routine, whereas a schedule often means events happening at a specific time, such as eating at 9am and napping at 9:30am.) You will notice that we often talk about following a predictable cycle with newborns as opposed to a consistent schedule, meaning a predicable routine with flexible timing. This is because, even with babies as young as newborns, following a routine in beneficial. In this study, they examined childrenā€™s participation in everyday routines over a 2-year period and the relationship of routines to childrenā€™s sleep duration. 177 families participated in the study, and parents were interviewed when their children were ages 4 and 6 years. They reported on their childrenā€™s everyday routines and perceived sleep duration. The results found that following the same general daily routines in early childhood has been associated with increased sleep duration! Iā€™m curious if you have found this to be true for your babies and children? Do you tend to follow the same daily routines with your little ones, or do you find that going with the flow works best for your family? If youā€™re babyā€™s gone through the 4 month sleep regression, you know itā€™s famous for a reason šŸ˜¬ Just when you think you might have lucked out and your baby is going to skip right over the 4 month sleep regression, sleep suddenly starts falling apart. šŸ˜© The best way through the 4 month sleep regression is to start working on independent sleep skills. Through sleep learning, you can work with your baby, in their zone of proximal development, to help them learn the skills they need to initiate sleep independently, lengthen their naps, and drop any unnecessary night wakings. šŸ™Œ The 4-24 Month Course walks you through the whole process, outlines all 4 of our approaches, AND teaches you how to tailor each approach to best fit your family! āœØAccess FREE sleep materials at thepeacefulsleeper.com/tiktok/ #sleepregression #4monthsold #4monthsleepregression #babysleep #babysleepconsultant #sleeptraining #sleeplearning #thepeacefulsleeper

Getting good, independent sleep and fostering a healthy, secure attachment are not at oddsā€” they actually go hand in hand. Healthy attachment is cultivated through thousands of interactions with your children, and how you show up at those interactions is often dependent on your own well-being. ā¬‡ļø When weā€™re well-rested, we can bring more joy, excitement, and love to each interaction. You can only be your best self for them when your cup is full! šŸ™Œ When it comes to attachment and sleep learning, the key is tuning in and collaborating WITH your baby to determine the best approach. Thatā€™s what sets The Peaceful Sleeper apartā€¦thereā€™s no one-size-fits-all! In the 4-24 Months Course, youā€™ll learn 4 different approaches (from gradual to accelerated, and two paths in the middle) to help teach your baby independent sleep skills. The goal is to empower you with information and support so you can ALL get great sleep. āœØ Access FREE sleep materials at thepeacefulsleeper.com/tiktok/ #attachment #secureattachment #parenting #babysleepconsultant #sleeplearning #sleeptraining #thepeacefulsleeper

1ļøāƒ£ Stay consistent. If your toddler is protesting their nap, think of it more as a ā€œquiet timeā€. Stay consistent and offer the nap at the same time, in the same place. Have a simple naptime routine and even if they just quietly play, it is important for their little bodies to rest and reset. 2ļøāƒ£ Set boundaries. We all know you cannot MAKE a baby sleep, so instead, think of it as a division of responsibilities. You set the boundaries around time, length (one hour is usually best), and the sleep environment. Your toddler chooses whether or not they sleep. You can also give them other choices to make such as what pajamas to wear, what stuffies to bring to bed, etc. to help them feel empowered and in control. 3ļøāƒ£ Motivate! Naps are not worth the power struggle that can sometimes ensue, so instead, try and think of ways you can motivate your toddler to be more receptive to naps. Some examples are trading in playtime now for a trip to the park after the nap, using an ā€œok to wakeā€ clock, or even a sticker chart. The biggest thing to remember is that sleep is not linear! Just like any type of progress, there will be ups and downs. Stay the course and remain calm- you got this! āļø Access FREE sleep materials at thepeacefulsleeper.com/tiktok/ #toddlersleep #toddlernaps #babysleepconsultant #sleeptraining #sleeplearning #thepeacefulsleeper
