Oggie’s rescue story is one of our most cherished from 2024. ♥️ Over the summer, a stray dog wandered into someone’s backyard, desperately seeking help. Oggie was horribly emaciated, his head sunken from muscle decay, and his body covered in flea bites and sores. When the finder tried to feed him, she noticed he couldn’t open his mouth and brought him to the closest shelter for help. When the shelter asked us to step in, we just knew he belonged with us. We were so worried about finding Oggie a home, but as we documented his journey from the hospital to his foster home, we caught the attention of one special person who would change his whole life… “My partner Danny was overcome with emotion when he saw a post on NYCSCR that was a picture of Oggie. It explained that Oggie was suffering from a rare medical condition. I myself have a serious rare jaw disease that has been life-altering. I related to his suffering and could not [imagine] all that he had been through. We decided together, to adopt Oggie. Oggie is an angel, he is sensitive, emotional, and so kind hearted. When I am feeling pain, he comforts me. He is a friend and playmate to my dog Echo. He has bonded with Danny and lives for their night-time walks together after work. I wish I could shake the hand of each and every person who helped save him, because he is a gift that brings us joy every day.” – Juliet, Oggie’s Mom Thank you for your support. Our beautiful boy, Wonder. At 2 years old, Wonder has spent nearly half his life waiting for a home after he was picked up as a stray. Our Founder tagged him for rescue and took him on his freedom ride from the Brooklyn ACC. But Wonder has now been living at our Center in Queens for months, waiting and waiting for a foster or forever family. This sweet boy loves to play and is always up to wrestle or learn some new tricks, and while he might be a bit shy at first, it won’t take long for him to warm up with some treats and belly scratches. He’s great one-on-one but also gets along with docile dogs. He’s the kind of dog who goes right up for a bum sniff and wants to play, and that can be annoying to some pups. But Wonder is all love at the end of the day. If you’re looking for a pup with personality and a ton of love to give, we’ve found your perfect match in Wonder. Apply to adopt/foster this handsome boy and come meet him at our center. #adoptable #dogsofnewyork #adoptdontshop #rescuedogs #becausetheymatter
Sweet baby Oscar. ❤️ He’s the friendliest fella on the planet with a noggin the size of Jupiter. From day 1, we knew Oscar was special. He is the kindest, most patient, tender-hearted dog. We don’t know what Oscar’s past life looked like, but he became an NYCSCR dog after he was abandoned in a locked trash room in the middle of winter, severely malnourished, and covered in sores all over his body. His eyes were a mess and he eventually lost his right eye from the damage, but we love his little perma-wink.😉 If you love big heads, morning cuddles, and a dog who sticks to you like glue, then Oscar might be your perfect boy. He is low-energy, dog-friendly, sweet, sensitive, and snuggly. Oscar is fully housebroken, a fantastic walking buddy, quiet, calm, and a quick learner. His foster mama says he has “bottomless patience” and lets her wipe his paws, put him in pj’s, and clean his ears without fuss. 🐥 His foster mom puts boots and jammies on him to protect his skin from allergens, and Oscar does not mind. He does struggle with some separation anxiety, but having another dog in the home helps him feel safe, and he’s made great progress during his time in foster care. Oscar is a dreamboat, and he’s ready for his forever family. Don’t miss out on this special pup - apply today to adopt Oscar🐾 #AdoptLove #BigHeadBiggerHeart #BecauseTheyMatter
Rudy is ready to leave his kennel behind and find a home! This sweet boy has been at our center in Long Island City, waiting for his big break. He’s 2 years old, loves to cuddle and give kisses, and has us all wrapped around his dainty little paws. Rudy is a smart, affectionate, active young dog looking for a chance to shine. He could benefit from some basic training but has already made huge progress during his time in our care. We haven’t been able to reliably assess his dog-friendliness due to the higher stress levels of the shelter, but given time to decompress in a home, the sky’s the limit with Rudy. Whether you’re ready for a forever friend or just want to bunk with a rescue pup as a foster, Rudy is waiting to you. Apply today! #becausetheymatter
