First: You’ll lose this video if you don’t save it! Breastfeeding isn’t supposed to be a contact sport… but when baby bites down, it sure feels like one! 😵💫 If you’ve got a little piranha on your hands, here’s how to unlatch them gently but effectively (without getting chomped again!): 🦷 1️⃣ Don’t pull away! – As tempting as it is to yank back, this can actually make baby clamp down harder. Instead, try a calm and controlled approach. 🫢 2️⃣ Break the suction – Gently insert your pinky finger between baby’s gums and your nipple to release the latch safely. 🍼 3️⃣ Pull them in, not out – If baby bites, bringing them closer to the breast will make them open their mouth naturally to breathe. 🗣️ 4️⃣ Redirect & Teach – Say “Ouch! No biting.” in a firm but gentle tone, then pause the feeding for a moment so they learn that biting = no milk. 👶 5️⃣ Watch for signs – If baby is biting due to teething discomfort, offer a cold teether before nursing to help soothe their gums. If baby is biting due to the flow of milk, gentle breast compressions can help. If baby is biting due to no actually being latched properly, you can try this unlatching technique. 💬 Moms, have you been bitten while nursing? What worked to stop it? Drop your best tips below! ⬇️😅
