A goal I never thought I’d complete, let alone exceed past. From the moment I found out I was pregnant, and beforehand, I knew I wanted to breastfeed. I knew I also did not want to use bottles. From birth we never used bottles, and by 4 months the supply in my right breast wasn’t super great anymore because she never really established a good latch and therefore supply. I just never really worked with her on it. So by 4 months, we were breastfeeding off just one breast. I hoped and hoped that month by month, we could just make it another month. But I was doubtful. I worried how one breast could sustain the eating needs of a 5 month old, but then a 10 month old, 11 month old, etc. I stopped pumping by 2 months post partum and probably lost a couple ounces. I also started to regulate and so I did not massively oversupply like before. All this had me concerned I would eventually not make enough for her, or any at all. I didn’t have a special diet, avoid certain foods, or make sure I drank enough water. I left it up to the universe. I had 1K of pumped breastmilk I pumped by the time I stopped pumping at 2 months postpartum and that became by backup plan. Hoping that if I did dry up, let it be closer to the one year mark. That way my frozen milk can help us atleast reach a year. But I was only 4 months PP and I was doubtful. Then month by month, we made it another day, another week, another month. Not only did we make it to One year of breastfeeding, no other milk and no bottle usage, but we also exceeded the plan and are at almost 15 months. I will go as long as I can. I am so proud of us. The beginning was so hard for me mentally and it did something to me during Post Partum I can’t ever explain the feeling of. But I am so glad I stuck to my goals and what I had wanted for my baby.
