#khalidNabhan #lebanon Florida's vast wetlands, where ancient alligators roam free and majestic birds soar overhead. Florida's unique ecosystem is home to over 700 species of wildlife, and its Everglades is the largest subtropical wilderness in the United States. As I glide through with warm sun on my face, I feel a sense of peace. But as I approached this bridge, my heart began to race, the cry of a bird overhead, it all fades away. This bridge, a simple concrete structure, brings back memories of a different crossing, one marked by fear, anxiety, and humiliation. As I pass under this bridge, I'm reminded of the ones back in Palestine, where concrete walls and bridges resemble racial inequality. I'm haunted by memories of apartheid walls and checkpoints back in Palestine. Palestinians are forced to navigate for hours to cross checkpoints under constant surveillance, humiliation, and fear. The steel gates, concrete barriers, and watchtowers etched in my mind forever. Steel gates divide communities, separating people from their families, their lands, and their livelihoods. The security checkpoints at my own housing community still gives me a feel of a twinge of anxiety when I approach these gates, my heart racing with the familiar fear of being denied passage, of being turned back It's a feeling I thought I had left behind, but it's still here, lingering just below the surface for every Palestinian who lived under the brutal occupation, the cancer we inherited in 1948 and we are witnessing Chemotherapy treatment to a new free world, one where Humanity and equality goes beyond all borders
