I used to procrasti-clean when I struggled with starting projects— It’s a common way to cope with the anxiety of looming deadlines. Cleaning, like scrolling, can be a distraction that makes us feel productive, but it can also delay the real work by giving us an excuse like, “I can’t start until my desk is clean!” Tasks like 15 min of cleaning can help move stuck energy, and you can use that motivation to carry into starting your task. But if you DON’T feel in control of your time and ability to start (and you always depend on deadlines), hours can go by of cleaning, scrolling, snacking, or doing ANYTHING but the task, as your anxiety builds. What we need to do instead is go to the root cause of WHY the task is causing you to overthink, feel overwhelmed, or anxious, which is causing you to procrastinate so that you can confidently start your work earlier without even needing a Pomodoro timer. I teach you how to do that inside my signature procrastination program, Today not Tomorrow. Link in bio!
