Usually I’m RELIEVED when frogs survive the firing 😡 . It was time for a new look! @☆ Mari Melody ☆ inspired me to get colorful in her Hair Dye Shirt! So I dyed my hair to match my pottery studio: Purple, Pink, and Yellow with @Arctic Fox ! But I had to show off Strawbastian & Hershel post-firing. Fingers crossed for that delicate icing drizzle! Before sealing the bottom, I carefully removed the paper skeleton to ensure every detail was just right. Throwback to one of my favorite creations—a miniature horse nestled inside a seashell, not your usual pearl. 🐚🐎 This piece is crafted from porcelain clay, featuring an iridescent finish inside the shell that really catches the light. I added a touch of pearl luster to the horse and finished it with real gold for the mane—just a little sparkle! This original has already found a home, but I’m thinking of crafting more. What do you all think? The process of carving some good ol Doug fir trees on a wood soda fired ceramic vessel! This type of carving is defined a labor of love that I can’t put down haha - I have a few more pots in the works that I cannot wait to share with you all. No texture!!! (Almost!) I personally am always stressed about using up and "wasting" materials (it's of course never a waste from a learning perspective, but from a monetary perspective it can suk😅), and sometimes that stops me from pursuing the shower thoughs type ideas that pop up here and there. But then I glanced around my workspace/studio the other day and realized how "material-rich" I am at the moment: I have a bunch of clay that's been sitting in a recycling bin for years now, I got some incredible glazes from @amacobrent and had the fortune to have other supplies donated to me by kind souls. In other words, I don't have an excuse not to swing for the fences and allow myself to make some silly things. So, with that in mind, I've decided to fold some time in the coming weeks to play around assuming there will be quite a bit of misses, some hits, but most importantly, lots of fun. The sculpture in this video was the first in this "series," - but not the first try. I started making the same cat but 3 hours in, I found myself falling into old habits of adding detail after detail, so I ended up smoshing it and started over and made this kitty and finished within the day. And really that is the only rule I've set for myself this month; to not spend more than a day on a single piece. I find this piece very fun and cute and I am excited to do the decoration idea; but I also have the idea for cruder and more experimental shapes (at least I hope I can get to that point eventually), while keeping backyard visitors/backyard trouble as an inspiration (cats, birds, bears etc.) I hope you like this piece!!!
