✅🐓 Here’s your checklist to save for later, PLUS one HUGE thing I forgot to mention in the video! Chickens are probably the easiest animal to set up for some time away. As long as they have food, water and a safe, clean space, they don’t need to be checked in on (in-person) daily. What you’ll need to do: ✅ Start with a clean coop and run ✅ Fill feeder completely ✅ Fill waterer (and add a water heater if you live where it freezes) ✅ Use moisture-retaining bedding under the roosts, especially in winter to prevent frostbite ✅ Have a neighbor collect eggs or install roll-away nesting boxes ✅ Install solar cameras that connect to WiFi so you can check on the chickens while you’re away ✅ (optional) Get a safe coop heater to cut out the chill 🌟 And the GAME-CHANGER: ✅ Get an automatic chicken door that opens and closes with the sun! This is probably the most important upgrade when automating daily chicken keeping. Important note: We never leave the chickens without emergency backup. We’re lucky to live in a neighborhood with reliable neighbors, plus my parents nearby. They’ve actually had to rescue Daisy when she got locked out at night (thankfully I saw it on my cameras!) Save this post for when you’re planning your next trip! ✈️
