If ICE arrives at your hospital, immediately notify your charge nurse and DON/Manager. Follow these steps from UCSF: 1. Inform ICE agents: “I do not wish to answer any questions based on my 5th Amendment rights” or “I do not have the authority to consent; please wait outside patient areas while I contact my supervisor.” Repeat until directed otherwise. 2. Remove ID badges. 3. Guide patients and families to “private clinical areas” away from public spaces. Close doors to prevent agent entry, as these areas are legally protected. 4. Observe and document interactions, including officer badge numbers, and designate someone to record video. 5. Cover any EMR or documents in plain sight and log out of computers. 6. Agents can only visually inspect items in plain view without a warrant; they cannot move objects to see more underneath nor can they rely on overheard information. 7.
