ALGORITHM OF HATE I’m starting a new project in response to Mark Zuckerberg’s new content moderation policies. Meta is now allowing users to call LGBTQ+ people mentally ill. They want to simplify content policies across Facebook, Instagram and Threads to get rid of restrictions on topics like immigration and gender that are “out of touch with mainstream discourse.” Meta is essentially letting people target LGBTQ people, women, immigrants, and other marginalized groups with hate, violence and dehumanizing narratives. They are normalizing anti-LGBTQ hatred for profit — at the expense of its users and true freedom of expression. I am looking for other creators—especially trans and queer individuals—who face a toxic relationship with social media due to the the hate endured on Meta platforms. This will explore the toxic reality that posts often gain visibility when they attract hate and examine how new Meta policies are increasing this harm by amplifying hate speech and removing protections for vulnerable communities. As a trans creator myself, there’s a toxic pattern where I see my posts “go viral” only after attracting a wave of hate comments, highlighting the algorithm’s role in pushing harmful engagement. Social media is becoming more and more of an unsafe space for other queer artists and creators to create freely because of this “Algorithm of Hate”. My prompt for you: Think of when your posts may have gone viral and the hate that found it’s way to your page. Maybe think of the comments/words that have hurt the most. This can be one specific word/phrase/name or this can be a combination of a variety of hate comments that you have received. I will project them onto a black backdrop behind you. Think of the emotions you may have felt: anger, sadness, numbness, etc and you can decide the color of the words that we will display onto the backdrop as well. This will give you the chance to turn your own experience into art and use it as an act of resistance to demand accountability from the systems that thrive on our suffering. *Everything will be provided for you, I just need you to wear neutral colors. I’m currently accepting models THIS WEEKEND @THE STUDIO in Chester, CT. #selfportrait #trans #transgender #lgbt #lgbtq #model #modelcall #ct #connecticut #ctphotographer #transphotographer
