When the sun rises on the winter solstice, it shines into this stone chamber located on the ancient Indian Road in what is now Vermont, creating an image of light and shadow. The chamber itself casts wavy shadows along the interior wall, creating a serpentine movement that flows down the wall as the sun rises in the sky. The image on the back wall appears to depict a horn. This horn, along with the serpentine motion, are two characteristics found in many serpent effigies in the Northeast.
