Diabetes restaurant nightmare - the kitchen messed up What I’m about to describe is one of the top reasons that people with diabetes are afraid to eat at restaurants. You order your meal, you're super excited, you take your insulin on time expecting the food in 15-20 minutes, the food comes out… …and they made the wrong order for you. You panic, because you’ve already taken insulin, and now you're concerned that your blood sugar could absolutely tank. What do you do? Ask yourself these questions: 🩸What is your current blood sugar and what’s the trend? More than likely you still have plenty of wiggle room. 🩸When did you dose for the food? If it’s been 15-20 minutes, the insulin is not peaking. 🩸Do you have low snacks on you just in case? Hopefully yes, but if not, tell the restaurant the situation and they will likely give you a regular soda. This can seem really scary but the odds are pretty low of it happening; if so, you now know how to handle it. Has this happened to you?
