TW: Tiger throwing up——I feel like I’ve gotten 1 million questions about the holes in the fence, so hopefully this explains. I also got some comments on a few different feeding videos about if the cats have ever ch0ked. I’ve never seen it happen severely, but they do tend to occasionally swallow meat whole and it gets stuck. We like the holes because we can control the pace at which they eat. And trust me, we are very aware of where all of these holes are-and none of them are in an area where the public could access; we have a secondary fence that goes around our enclosures. I just give you guys the VIP tour behind that fence here on TikTok. We make sure that when we are interacting with them, we are mindful of where the holes are, and which cats we are with-some have never put their paw near one, some have, and even for the ones that haven’t-that day could always come! I’ve mentioned this other videos, but the big cats are very clear when they are wanting to be pet and scratched-I do want to reiterate that it is never ‘safe’-these are dangerous animals-but paying attention to the body language they show goes a long way in preventing accidents. At this moment Subali is not giving me any signs that he wants to be touched-so I don’t touch him. If I were to touch him, I would be breaking the boundary that he is clearly trying to set, and that’s how injuries can happen. On top of safety, I respect what they want-I know when I’m not in the mood for someone to touch me, I appreciate when people respect that boundary, so I try to do the same for them ❤️ #NOTpets #wildlifesanctuary #zoonaplesfla #EndangeredSpecies #bigcatkeeper #zookeeper

I get asked this question quite a bit and I usually respond in the comments, but I figured I would make a video about it so people could reference it more easily. None of our cats are declawed or have any of their teeth removed. And as I mentioned in the video, I personally have never seen or heard of a facility doing this in recent times. Again, not saying it has never happened, just that it’s not something I have witnessed. As I mentioned in the video, I only pet them when they want to be pet-and certain cats I trust more than others. Some facilities use pans to feed their cats to prevent messes like this-we don’t use pans because our cats would scarf down the food way too quickly. Instead, we use these feed plates (as you can see sometimes they like to lay right on them like Tanju is doing here 😂) which we bleach and sanitize regularly in between meals.
