TW: PTSD and trauma This post is not meant to make anyone feel sorry for me. This post is meant to bring attention to this growing issue in the medical community. Please feel free to share if you want… I had a happy childhood. I have great parents. I never endured any trauma, until I got sick. I’ve never been to war, I’ve never experienced the “classic” PTSD trauma experiences everyone thinks of. But I do have PTSD, because of this. Medical gaslighting has almost taken my life many times, physically and mentally speaking. I have lost count of how many times I’ve been called crazy by doctors or how I’ve been accused of faking my illnesses or how I’ve been accused of doing dr*gs. I have nightmares multiple times per week of me having life threatening seizures and having those same doctors standing over me, watching me seize until I aspirate on my own vomit, go into cardiac arrest and die because they didn’t believe it was real. Don’t worry I’m in therapy for all of this…but I’m bringing attention to this issue because I know I’m not the only one who has gone through this. Many other people, especially young women and girls, have gone through this. Far too many. I’m going into the medical field for a reason, and that’s to help patients like me. To help all patients but to especially help those who haven’t been believed or haven’t been taken seriously to the point of experiencing life threatening medical negligence. Most of us had happy childhoods and have great parents. But because of the broken medical system and the doctors that treat patients this way, many of us now have PTSD along with our other medical conditions. It needs to end, and it starts with us talking about it, no matter how uncomfortable it may be.
