Lightner Museum was named No. 4 on this list by Southern Living magazine of “8 Small-Town Southern Museums That Are Underrated And Worth A Visit” From the story: St. Augustine, Florida Housed in the former Alcazar Hotel built by oil and railroad developer Henry Flagler, this elegant St. Augustine icon was purchased by Otto Lightner, a magazine publisher, and reborn in 1948 as Lightner Museum. The museum’s collection is an homage to the Gilded Age and the hobbies and furnishings of the time. It includes ornate furniture, busts, stained glass, vintage typewriters, and cut glassware from opulent Gilded Age mansions. Beyond the museum’s permanent collection, the building is a work of art. Designed in the Spanish Renaissance Revival style and honoring the principles of Beaux-Arts architecture, the turn-of-the-century building is just one of many that visually define the Mediterranean aesthetic of St. Augustine today. 📍75 King St, St. Augustine, FL 32084 @Lightner Museum
