Not all frost cloth is created equal and it’s important to know the difference if you’re winter growing! We are forecasted to get down to 4 degrees next week and I personally know my microclimate tend to get a little bit colder than forecasted. We usually have this happen a couple times during the season. It’s a pain but nice to have the right kinds of materials on hand when this kind of weather comes our way. I keep 3 different kinds of frost cloth on hand for times like these. •AG-19 - .55 oz (per sq yd) that provides 4 degrees of protection and still lets in 85% light. •AG-30 - .9 oz (per sq yd) that provides 6 degrees of protection and lets in 70% light. •AG-50 - 1.5 oz (per sq yd) that provides 8 degrees of protection and lets in 50% light. These can be doubled and with each layer adds that amount of protection but less light through. *I tend to use AG-50 the most. Less worrying on my part and more protection. Often times my frost cloth doesn’t have to stay on but a day or two at a time. You can find these materials from @johnnys_seeds or I have found products I’ve ordered from Amazon work just as well. As you can see, tulip planting is a full family effort! Shout out to my Mom and sister in law for coming to help me! We got it done in less than 3 hours! I like planting my tulips in raised beds. Just makes it easier - plus I fence off in the spring so deer don’t get them. I plant them close and deep. In the spring when I harvest them, I pull the entire plant - bulb and all. Cut flower tulips can store in a cooler for weeks with the bulb still attached! Tulips have a big piece of my flower farming heart! Most popular flower of spring! 💐 #tulip #tulips #flowers #cutflowers #flowerfarm #flowerfarmer #flowerfarming #localflowers
These are the grow lights I use in my seed starting area! The exact ones! Yep, just regular ole LED lights can be used for seed starting. $22 at my local hardware store @harborfreight grow lights don’t need to be anything fancy. Only fancy ‘real’ grow lights need to be used if you are growing your plants to flower and fruit inside. I’m not so these work perfect! I only use these to get my plants started. Maybe for 4-6 weeks. I grew 1000s of seedlings under them last year with zero problems! I liked these because they are linkable(they can be plugged into each other which means less power strips). I linked some similar in my Amazon Storefront(link in my bio)! Happy Growing! Fun fact: This is probably one of my top controversial reels beside a tomato reel I had to turn comments off on because I was getting hate mail - yes, over tomatoes. 😝😑 • • • #garden #gardening #flowers #flowerfarm #flowerfarmer #flowerfarming #growingflowers #seed #seedstarting #startingseeds #indoorseedstarting #seedstartingtips #gyo #growingindoors #seedstartingtips #growlightgarden #growlights
Here’s how I make tunnels for my frost cloth! Don’t go and buy precut hoops…make your own by going to your local farm store! Buy some 10 gauge coiled fencing wire and make your own! Easy to cut with wire cutters or fencing pliers. Place about 4ft apart and the cloth lays right on top! I pull the ends tight and secure with rocks or anything heavy and then use rocks or tpost to hold down the side. Frost cloth is so important when growing cool flowers! So it’s important to have an easy and good system in place for those really cold nights! #flowerfarm #flowerfarmer #flowerfarming #localflowers #farmerflorist #lowtunnel #caterpillertunnel

When I first started growing indoors I had no idea what I was doing. It’s a learning curve and it’s hard to know what is right and wrong. There is a lot of information out there. None it is wrong, it’s all helpful but it’s a lot. These are the top things you need to get started! •A rack that fits your lights and your trays •Grow lights •Trays with no hold in bottoms •Seed starting trays •Humidity domes •Soil blocker - I have the mini and 2in •Trays with a small lip for soil blocks •Seed heat mats It you have those things, you are set to start! I do both seed starting in trays and in soil blocks! 😉 Of course, you need soil and seeds but you know that already! 😉 Don’t be intimidated, it’s all a learning experience. Things will go wrong, things will go right but most importantly you will learn a new skill! Link in my bio to my Amazon storefront. There you will find all my seed starting must haves! 💗 • • • #garden #gardening #flowers #flowerfarm #flowerfarmer #flowerfarming #growingflowers #seed #seedstarting #startingseeds #indoorseedstarting #seedstartingtips
The Christmas break is everything I needed. Lots of relaxing and reading and I’ve even been working on something for you all! Can’t wait to share!! I got a lot of projects done from splitting the rest of my dahlias, to finally washing and cleaning my seed trays 🫣, cleaning up the mess of a barn, and finally getting my seed starting area all cleaned up! I do a good job of this in the summer but then it just becomes a big storage area where I throw anything and everything I don’t know what to do with! When I started growing I started with one growing rack, then moved to 2 and now I have 3. I can fit a lot of flowers here and I start at different intervals so when some come off to harden off, more go on and it usually keeps going until July or so! I even bought a table last year so I didn’t have to sit on the floor…I’m moving up in the world I guess! I can’t wait to get started! I love seed starting time! I’ll be sharing lots of seed starting advice here! I love to teach and educate growers so it’s fun for me to share! (That’s the teacher in me I guess 💗) Would love for you to follow along! 💗 #seedstarting #growingfromseed #seedgermination #indoorseedstarting #flowerfarm #flowerfarmer #flowerfarming
I started my flower field in an old hay field. I had no well when I started planting, our tractor was at the other farm, and I had no plan whatsoever. I just knew I wanted to grow flowers…lots of flowers. I had a goal and didn’t let the hard task get in my way. I made it work and it’s so beautiful and it just keeps getting better and better! So proud of this space. • • • #garden #gardener #mastergardener #gardenlove #gardening #iamyourgardener #howdoesyourgardengrow #gardeningforthesoul #gardenlife #farmher #gardengirl #flowerfarmer #flowerfarming #flowerfarm #cutflowers #cutflowergarden flowersofinstagram #flowertips #flowergarden #gardenflowers #freshflowers #farmfresh #farmfreshflowers
Wrapped up wreath season today by getting to play a little. It felt good to be creative. I love making wreaths but it does get repetitive after a while so it was a nice change up to do something different. Loved using my dried flowers for a new and improved rainbow wreath! Made one last year but hand tied it 😑- this year was a lot easier 😂 What do you think? #flowers #flowerfarm #flowerfarmer #flowerfarming #wreath #wreathseason #evergreenwreath #driedflowers #driedflowerwreath #localflowers
He says you just worry about growing those flowers and leave everything else to me. 🥰 This is my third year of overwintering ranunculus (adding anemones this year too) and I like to say third time is a charm. Last years low tunnel worked but I really wanted something that I could easily assemble and easily take down year to year. I also plan to add more low tunnels so I want to perfect the system. Conduit pipe is finally not sooo freakin expensive so I decided to go with that because it will last so long and it’s sturdy. Here’s how we bent it. It might not work for everyone but it definitely worked perfect for us! I’ll be sharing more about my low tunnel this week! #flowerfarm #flowerfarmer #flowerfarming #localflowers #lowtunnel #caterpillartunnel
Installing my low tunnels to protect those delicate spring flowers! 3 years ago, I trial grew about 100 ranunculus in my backyard. I wanted to see if I could grow them through the winter here in Missouri. I used rusty ole t-post cut in half, some woven wire and some zip ties. I was truly just seeing if I could do it. Well I did it and I was hooked! Here I am planting 1000s of ranunculus! #lowtunnel #caterpillartunnel #winterflowers #springflowers #ranunculus #flowers #flowerfarm #flowerfarmer #flowerfarming
Tulips got me hooked! First year, I grew 500 had to buy a refrigerator to store them in 😂. Second year, grew 5000 and build a cooler and sold every single one. Here we go year three! The best is yet to come! #flowers #flowerfarm #flowerfarmer #flowerfarming #tulips #tulipseason
Hey! I’m Meg! A flower farmer going into year 4 of growing flowers exclusively, year 10 of growing everything 😝 I love nature and being outside. I do not watch TV - find it a waste of my time. I love experimenting with growing new things. I’m a creative. I love a challenge. I usually have too much on my plate but I work well under pressure so it works….oh and I’m a full time art teacher by day. 😉 Thanks for being here with me! 💗💗 #flowers #flowerfarm #flowerfarmer #flowerfarming #growingflowers #cutflowers
Lots of flowers growing ❤️ #ranunculus #ranunculusflower #anemoneflowers #flowerfarmer #flowerfarming
This is hands down the best way to store frost cloth! IYKYK but frost cloth is a waded mess most of the time. Knotting it like this helps to put out easily, helps it not be tangled and you can always find the end! 😉 Easy peasy! Also, peep my pup in the background trying to steal the show 😂 • • • #garden #gardener #mastergardener #gardenlove #gardening #iamyourgardener #howdoesyourgardengrow #gardeningforthesoul #gardenlife #farmher #gardengirl #flowerfarmer #flowerfarming #flowerfarm #cutflowers #cutflowergarden #flowersofinstagram #womeninbusiness #womeninag #flowertips #flowergarden #gardenflowers #freshflowers #farmfresh #farmfreshflowers #frostcloth #lowtunnel
