If I could only grow 3 types of blooms in my cut flower garden it would be these. 🌸⬇️ 🌸 Zinnias - they are super easy to grow from seed, there are lots of different varieties to choose, they are cut and come again early summer through fall. Zinnias bloom like crazy, they look incredible both in the garden and a bouquet. They are a must-have, even if you are new to the gardening scene. 🌸 Dahlias - while not on my easy-care list of flowers to grow you cannot beat them in a cut flower or cottage garden. If you’ve not grown them before, it’s not that they are hard to grow but rather need a little more time from you as a gardener. But don’t let that scare you because they are WORTH IT if you are up to it. The flowers are crazy beautiful and unique that they can’t be rivaled. Cut them often and you’ll have both a garden and house full of flowers summer through. 🌸 Snapdragons - another flower bloom that’s easy to grow from seed with lots of different really beautiful varieties to choose from. They start blooming in late spring, slow down a little on the summer heat, but pick back up again in fall without skipping a beat here in my zone 6b garden. They too, are cut and come again flowers, so the more you snip the more you’ll have. Deer and rabbits tend to leave them alone too. Save and share this post with a friend you think would love growing these too! And tell me in the comments below what would your 3 must-have blooms be in a cut flower garden?🌸 Want more flower gardening inspo? the heat is rough but these will survive! i love floral landscapes and gardens and this is my favorite perennial, favorite flowering shrub, and favorite groundcover for the southeast or sunny hot yards. #gardendesign #landscapedesign #flowergarden #englishcottage #cottagegarden #gardening
you can have color in shade! as a reminder, full shade is 0-2 hours of sun per day, part shade is 2-4, part sun is 4-6, and full sun is 6+! these are 3 of my favorites for a beautiful floral yard and you can find these two roses at david austin. the camellia is evergreen and the forget me nots will come back year after year. #gardendesign #shadegarden #backyardideas #flowergarden #cottagegarden #landscapedesign #creatorsearchinsights #greenscreen
tips for this years garden!! nothing sadder than buying a beautiful perennial at the nursery & realizing it only blooms for a week and now you just have a green thing for the next 11 months haha. these are my 5 favorite longest lasting perennial blooms: 🌼 verbena bonariensis 🌺 feverfew 🌸 limelight hydrangeas 🌼 tall phlox 🌸 dahlias #gardendesign #flowergardenideas #flowergarden #landscapedesign #backyardideas #englishcottage #cottagestyle #cottagecoreaesthetic #creatorsearchinsights #greenscreen
easy way to identify your hydrangea & why they make not be blooming! there are so many varieties but you only need to know which of the 5 categories yours falls into to know how to care for it. here’s how to identify, plant, prune & care for all five as well as their hardiness zones and light preferences. hydrangeas are beloved for a reason - just make sure you put them in the right spot & give them enough water!! #hydrangeas #cottagegarden #englishgarden #englishcottage #backyardideas #gardenideas #flowergarden #landscapedesign
Starting snapdragons from seed this year? Here are a few do’s and don’ts for starting the seeds indoors.🌸 1. Buy seeds from a quality grower. You’ll have greater germination rates. 2. Don’t sow more than one variety per cell tray or container. Different varieties germinate at different rates. 3. Label every cell or pot well with plant variety and the date sowed. You wont remember them later if you don’t. And keep seed packets for easy reference. 4. Pre-moisten your seed starting mix. Don’t use regular potting mix when starting seeds indoors. 5. Snapdragons need light to germinate so don’t bury the seeds. 6. You don’t need to use a heat mat when starting snapdragons. 7. Avoid watering seedlings from above. Bottom water only so you don’t disturb the seedlings 8. Check seedlings often to make sure they don’t dry out. 9. You don’t need to sow every seed in the packet. It’s ok to save some for next year. 10. Give seedlings enough time to harden off before planting them outdoors. They need that time to acclimate! Here are some additional tips I’ve learned from the past few years of winter sowing:

🌸Sow one type of seed per container – do not mix varieties. Label everything well with plant variety and the date sowed. Keep seed packets for easy reference. 🌸When to start depends on your zone and the type of seeds. I’m in zone 6b and generally start filling jugs, rotisserie chicken containers, and anything else I have laying around that can double as a mini-greenhouse in late Jan and early Feb. 🌸The potting soil you use matters! I love @coastofmaine Bar Harbor Blend. Moisten soil in a bucket before sowing. 🌸The seeds you use matter! I love @johnnnys_seeds. 🌸Label your seed jugs in two places to avoid confusion later! Stick a label inside to prevent fading from sunlight, and another on the outside for easy identification. Even if the outer label becomes hard to read, the inner one will stay clear. Trust me, you won't remember what's in each jug, so double labeling is the way to go! 🌸Set your containers together on the ground that has sun, rain, snow, etc. Check them once a week to make sure containers stay evenly moist. Normally, the jugs don’t need anything because the weather takes care of things. Add some moisture if dry. 🌸The seeds should sprout and be ready to plant in the spring when the weather warms up. 🌸Before planting, take the tape off and leave the jugs without tape for a day or 2 so you can open for a few days to get them used to the elements before planting. Will you try winter sowing this year? Save this post and share it with a friend who you think would love to learn how to winter sow seeds too! do you know the trick? choose the right season, & in general, the warm season ones are the easiest! plus, selecting unique varieties that look unlike the common version is key for getting an elegant look with “the basics.” don’t give up if you went overboard and bought a ton of seeds last year & they didn’t do well, haha. here’s 9 that you can’t mess up ❤️ plus, half are flowers that will come back every year so you don’t have to start over each spring! #cutflowers #flowergarden #cottagegarden

Tired of weeding? I get you - I am too. What if I told you there’s a way to get more flowers and less weeds? 🌼

Groundcovers are low-maintenance landscaping heroes if you want to do a little less work weeding and mulching in your flower gardens. They effectively suppress weeds, prevent erosion, and add a beautiful layer of texture and color to your flower beds.🌼

But beyond their practical benefits, many groundcovers also boast stunning blooms throughout the season and add year round interest too.🌼

If you’re looking to add a touch of floral flair to your landscape while minimizing upkeep, then look no further than groundcovers that bloom! There are lots to choose from and the best part? They are easy to grow!🌼

Now I say this with one caveat. It’s really important you check with your local cooperative extension to make sure whatever you plant is not on your state or country’s invasive list. Cause the last thing you want to do is plant a garden thug that will take over your garden, your neighbor’s garden, or local ecosystem. So always know before you grow!🌼 For a list of groundcovers that bloom head over to my blog here: https://stacyling.com/easy-groundcovers-that-add-year-round-interest/

Confession time: For years, my garden used to be a respectable spread of petunias, impatiens, and pansies. Sure, they were pretty, but let’s be honest, a little predictable. Then, I got into my cut flower gardening obsession, tested out some different blooms to grow, and met strawflowers. They burst with every color imaginable, invaded my seed packets, and bloomed their way into my heart (and every square inch of my sunny borders ever since). Have you tried growing them yet? They are easy-care, low-maintenance, and are so gorgeous to boot. And now, I’m a full-blown strawflower addict, and I’m here to share my obsession with you. Wait until you see how easy these pretty blooms are to grow! Save this post and share it with a friend who’d love to grow them too.
