The beautiful Anna’s hummingbirds live in the Pacific Northwest year-round. Hummingbirds are excellent pollinators and help with insect control, which includes aphids, gnats, mites, caterpillars, mosquitoes, and more. In the fall and winter, we give them sugar water in a ratio of 1:4. The spring and summer flowers usually provide plenty of nectar. Some of their favorite blooms in our garden are Scarlet Runner Bean, Kale, Rosemary, Agapanthus, Crocosmia, Sage, Pineapple Sage, Bee Balm, Catmint, Hosta, Foxglove, Columbine, Red Flowering Currant, and Bleeding Heart. Growing diverse types of plants with different bloom times will provide nectar throughout the season. What are some of your favorite pollinator plants? #foryoupage #fyp #hummingbird #pollinators #wildlife #gardeningtips #gardening

🐝 H E L P /// rebuild Bee Leaf USA’s honeybee sanctuary! 🌿 While California’s Palisades wildfires made headlines, another disaster struck in silence—an 85-mph windstorm tore through Bee Leaf USA’s sanctuary, devastating their honeybee rescue and rehabilitation center. “The wind basically tore apart our classroom, our sheds, and all of the infrastructure that we have set up for the bees,” said Travis Wolf, owner of Bee Leaf USA. 🐝 What Bee Leaf USA Does: For nearly a decade, they’ve worked to: ✔️ Rescue honeybee colonies from extermination ✔️ Relocate them to safe, rural sanctuaries ✔️ Revive them so they can continue pollinating our world This sanctuary wasn’t just a home—it was a honeybee hospital, an education hub, and a safe haven for thousands of rescued bees. 🛑 Why They Need Help Now: This storm destroyed their classrooms, sheds, and vital infrastructure, making it impossible to continue their work. 🌎 Without immediate support, thousands of honeybee colonies—critical to our food system and biodiversity—are at risk. 💛 How You Can Help: Every donation will go toward: 🔹 Rebuilding classrooms for bee education 🔹 Restoring shelters for bee rehabilitation 🔹 Reconstructing essential infrastructure to continue rescue efforts 🐝 “Our sanctuary serves as a honeybee hospital. Without it, these bees have nowhere to recover.” The bees need us now. Got a quick check-in on the orchard hive today! The bees were quick to greet me, and I’m happy to see they’re thriving despite the cold Pacific Northwest weather. Resilient little workers! Leaving the leaves is just one of many simple steps you can take on your property to help pollinators and other beneficial creatures! Below is a list you can follow of how to garden with the environment in mind - learn even more in our online course series called “Gardening for the Planet” at sprigglys.com or through the link in our bio! What can you do to help pollinators and beneficial wildlife? Follow these steps! 🌻The goal is to have at least one plant in bloom during the entire growing season 🌸🌼🌸Plant in large groups of flowers to offer easy targets for passing pollinators 🐝🦋 Remember different pollinators access different types of flowers - if possible - plant a high diversity of plants with different bloom types, shapes, height, and colors 🌿Choose native plants whenever possible and try not to use more than 30% of non-native plants in your garden 🍁Leave as much of your yard “wild” as possible with essential habitat such as leaf litter, fallen logs, tall grass, and wildflowers throughout the year 🌺Plant some spring ephemerals this fall (bulbs that will bloom in early spring), along with early blooming trees (maples, cherries, service berries) and shrubs (rhododendrons, azaleas) to help give early pollinators an early boost of forage ☠️Avoid all pesticides, herbicides, and fungicides 💧Make sure there is a supply of water nearby; if there is not a natural source a bird bath of dish with stones and shallow water works well 🥸Be wary of plant “cultivars” that alter bloom type or leaf color as these can have negative effects on pollinators Thanks for everything you do for the wild world around us! 🐝🌿💚 #pollinators #beneficialcreatures #leavetheleaves #pollinatorgarden #habitatrestoration #natureeducation
