The beautiful Anna’s hummingbirds live in the Pacific Northwest year-round. Hummingbirds are excellent pollinators and help with insect control, which includes aphids, gnats, mites, caterpillars, mosquitoes, and more. In the fall and winter, we give them sugar water in a ratio of 1:4. The spring and summer flowers usually provide plenty of nectar. Some of their favorite blooms in our garden are Scarlet Runner Bean, Kale, Rosemary, Agapanthus, Crocosmia, Sage, Pineapple Sage, Bee Balm, Catmint, Hosta, Foxglove, Columbine, Red Flowering Currant, and Bleeding Heart. Growing diverse types of plants with different bloom times will provide nectar throughout the season. What are some of your favorite pollinator plants?
