Oakleyâs story with us began in heartbreak and ended in love. After his dadâs unexpected passing, Oakleyâs family had nowhere to turn. Thanks to the compassion of Herbst Veterinary Hospital, Oakley was given a second chance at life with Petuniaâs. Giving Oakley a life filled with joy, care, and unending love. From the moment he arrived, Oakley lit up our lives. He was loud, quirky, and full of life. Whether zooming around in his wheelchair or without it, Oakley was always on the move, showing us that even with challenges, life could be lived to the fullest. His Frenchie snorts and unique personality made everyone around him smile. A huge thank you to Janelle and her family, who opened their hearts and home to him as his forever medical foster. Janelle, your love and dedication gave Oakley the life he deserved, filled with snuggles, hand-fed meals, and all the care he needed. You gave him a home where he was loved fiercely and where he could just be Oakleyâzoomies, snorts, and all. Over the past month, Janelle started noticing small changes. Oakley became a little picky with his food, but his energy remained, and we hoped it was nothing serious. Janelle made sure he ate with hand feeding and extra attention, but despite her best efforts, Oakley began to lose weight. Earlier in the week, his energy dropped for the first time. Thursday, we brought him to Dr. Bailey, at Herbst Veterinary Hospital, to find out what was wrong. A big thank you to Dr. Chwala, an internal specialist, for taking the time to help Sweet Oakley. The diagnosis was devastating: a fast-growing, aggressive GI Lymphoma tumor. It had likely been there for only a month and became symptomatic just a few days ago. There was nothing more we could do except give Oakley the peace he so deserved. Saying goodbye was heartbreaking. Dr. Bailey and the team at Herbst gave him so much love in his final moments, and he was surrounded by the people who adored him. While our hearts are shattered, we take comfort in knowing that Oakley didnât have to suffer. He was his happy, snorting, zooming self until just a few days ago. Oakley, you taught us so much about resilience, love, and joy. You were a reminder of why we do what we do. You were deeply lovedânot just by Janelle and her family but by everyone who met you. You made an indelible mark on our lives, and saying goodbye to you feels unbearable. But we know your memory will live on in all of us who were lucky enough to love you. To our supporters: Over the past couple of months, weâve faced so many heartbreaking medical cases like Oakleyâs. Itâs because of your generous donations that weâre able to provide the care, surgeries, and treatments these animals need. Your support also allows us to help members of our community say goodbye to their beloved furbabies with humane euthanasia and bring them home through cremationâa costly but deeply meaningful service for families in their hardest moments. đ Help us continue this vital work by supporting our mission. Oakleyâs legacy, and the legacy of so many others, lives on through your kindness. Together, we can make a difference. Rest easy, Oakley. You were so, so loved. D0NAT!ON L!NK IN B!0
