When I moved in 7 years ago I was given reassurance that it would not be a problem female assisting me bathing and dressing, was certain that I had a place of safety and security and choices over my care and body etc. 7 years later after literally fighting for my life health wise that my group home is no different than the institutions they used to put people like myself in & those same institutions some went extreme with the abuse that occurred in these and that is why they were shut down. They used to sterilize people with disabilities. Then group homes came about and there are few good ones out there that actually treat their residents with dignity and care, then theirs the ones that lie and turn out like mine. Who praise themself online heres what it says “We operate 14 group homes in the area. Each home is inspected and monitored by the County and State on a regular basis. Professionally trained staff are on-site 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, to offer care, guidance, skill building and security for each resident. Each home houses 3-5 residents, where they learn adaptive life skills and are encouraged to pursue their own interests. We provide transportation to and from community events and medical appointments” FIRST these staff aren’t professionally trained in anything, they pick people they ask at a grocery store or tell me to ask strangers on the street if their interested in working at the home. These aren’t people with any experience working with people with disabilities and they don’t have to be. Most barely speak english also and don’t drive. They hire for Im sure real low pay and the people quit after barely any time working. They teach 0 adaptive life skills, they make residents who are capable of doing certain things themself make them believe they cant do xyz and do everything for them. They don’t have any lessons or classes or anything else to teach anything not cleaning, laundry, cooking nothing none. They send people off to their day programs and then theirs home sitting around. The little outings are a 15 minute ride to fast food places or the dollar tree. Theirs no activities. No love, security etc & don’t take me anywhere. This is my reality. Don’t know what to do if an investigator with the state wont even listen. #grouphomeabuse #grouphome #disability #mistreatment #chronicillness #fyp

Don’t know what to do about this abuse at my group home anymore and Im the only one being mistreated all because Im requesting female assistance with my shower and dressing, 2 things I cant do because of my disability. Many have reported including myself and even an investigator with the state doesn’t care what so ever or help. Im feeling completely hopeless now. I guess group homes for adults with disabilities are allowed to do this and I guess my dignity privacy body autonomy rights etc nothing matters. I guess Im not deserving of a shower or getting dressed. Everyday now going on a month house wont do anything flat out refusal forcing my elderly mother with stage 4 kidney disease to do it who isn’t being paid and who Ive gone through severe abuse with to. Wants an unqualified nonmedical male staff at my home to help me and due to severe trauma and my severe health conditions Im not comfortable with that. Claims they have no females when the owner has 15 homes with female staff in them. I feel like its my time to pass I guess #grouphome #grouphomeabuse #disabled #chronicillness #mistreatment #trauma #fyp
