Community members condemned Houston ISD Thursday for suspending about 45 Northside High School students for allegedly misbehaving after they protested against the national crackdown on immigration. Students protested on Feb. 7 amid nationwide changes to immigration enforcement following the election of President Donald Trump. While most participated peacefully, the district said it entered secure mode as some students did not return to class. Joshua Ramos, a suspended Northside student, asked the district's appointed board to erase the suspensions from their records. He said freedom of speech is not limited to just adults. "It's also made for teens and kids... but when they're using freedom of speech, you guys were fighting to expel us as students. I wonder why. We, the students that were protesting, we're doing it in a peaceful manner with a good intention." Click the link in our bio to read more. ✍️&📸: Nusaiba Mizan / Houston Chronicle reporter
