One of the most eye-opening things I ever learned about the body was this connection. When I started seeing people get their top permanent retainers off and their neck pain instantly dissolve in many cases, I was blown away. Getting a top retainer is a very common strategy post-braces removal because it holds the teeth in place and forces them not to revert back to their previous malignant. But here’s what no one asks - why do the teeth want to move back to where they were pre-braces? Teeth grow straight down, so if they’re not growing straight down and there’s crowding/poor alignment, that’s happening for a reason. Probably because you have: - A top and bottom jaw that are misaligned - An upper or lower jaw that isn’t developed enough - An uneven/asymmetrical jaw And so many more potential considerations. The unfortunate reality is that most dentists just care about straightening your teeth, not why your teeth aren’t straight in the first place. These permanent retainers are basically gripping your upper jaw together, desperately holding everything together. And that locks up structures, bones, and joints around it. Down the chain too. I want to finish by saying this isn’t me trying to step out of my lane - this is essentially me regurgitating what I’ve learned and observed from high level dentists (such as @alamposturaldds) and myofunctional therapists (such as @integrative_myo) who really know their stuff. If you think you may benefit from getting your permanent retainer off, it’s not as simple just pulling the trigger on it. You need to speak with someone who understands cranial bone and jaw movement/alignment in context with the rest of the body, not just any dentist who is primarily concerned with “straightening teeth”. —— #dentistry #teeth #tmd #tmj #cosmeticdentist #braces #jawpain #neckpain

Click the link in my bio for my signature jaw process! Do you have ongoing persistent jaw pain? Have you found many short term relief solutions but you can’t seem to figure out a long-term fix? Are you trying random exercises and stretches that you hear about? Well, if you want a long-term solution first you have to understand the root cause. And we could begin by placing your pain into one of three buckets. #1 referred from the neck, #2 temporomandibular joint or #3 stress/tension. In this video, I demonstrate an exercise combination to address the issue if it’s coming from the neck. #tmj #tmd #tmjdisorder #tmjtreatment #jawpain #tmj👊

🚨 The #1 cause for TMJ problems is... ...AN UNEVEN BITE. 🤯 As I have treated more & more TMJ/TMD patients, I've realized that an uneven bite is more commonly the cause of my patients' TMJ pain & dysfunction...even more so than hypermobility, hormones, sleep apnea, clenching & grinding, etc. Have you had your bite evaluated?! 🎥: @ tumbleweedfeed via TT . . . . #tmjpain #jawpaintreatment #tmjd #unevenbite #tmjrelief #jawpainrelief #teethgoals #TMJDisorder #jawpain #tmjrelief #tmjtreatment #happyteethhappylife #bruxism #tmjd #dentalgram #dentistsofinstagram

Here’s your answer... Sometimes! 💥 Does your jaw click, pop or lock? We can decrease pain and prevent jaw locking, but it is VERY difficult to completely get rid of that jaw clicking and popping in some cases. ✨ Seek out a qualified & experienced TMJ practitioner who may be able to help you prevent episodes of jaw locking! Once it’s locked, it’s still fixable - but a harder fix! Prevention is KEY here! Hope this helps! #tmjpain #jawpaintreatment #tmjpain #jawpain #jawpopping #dentistry #earpain #toothpain #neuromusculardisease #tmjrelief #teethgoals #TMJDisorder #TMJ #dentistry #jawclicking

Unpopular opinion- “Cutting” or “snipping” a tongue tie isn’t a miracle. RELEASING tension under the tongue that restricts mobility can assist in the many roles the tongue plays in the FUNCTION of OUR BODY. Our tongue helps in : How our jaws and teeth grow How well we can breathe Sleep Speaking Eating The release should be done after a thorough assessment of what compensations the body has BECAUSE OF a tongue tie. The release should be done AFTER the body has had amble muscle retraining and fascial release to minimize compensations and tension to ensure the best outcomes. If this isn’t the process or protocol your provider has - find another one provider . DON’T put all your eggs into the tongue tie basket. Chances are you’ll feel better more with the therapy, and if needed , the tongue tie release will be the cherry on top. #sleep #breathe #dental #oralhealth #tonguetie #tonguethrust #kids #sleepapnea #jawpain

Do you experience, clicking or popping in your jaw? Maybe it even shifts to one side? Well there are always several possible causes ranging from joint issues to muscle issues… And in this video we address the lateral pterygoid, which directly connects into the disc that typically gets displaced and is responsible for the clicking and popping. When this muscle is in spasm, not only can it pull the disc out of position, but it can pull the jaw into a shift to the opposite side. Which side to release? 👉🏼 So if you feel clicking or popping, you’re gonna wanna release the lateral pterygoid on the side of the click or pop. 👉🏼 If your jaw is shifting, you’re gonna want to release the one on side opposite your jaw shifts towards. Give it a shot! #tmj #tmd #tmjdisorder #tmjtreatment #jawpain #tmj #dental #dentistry

I want to be free too Stacy. This is the worst! This is the scenario- the patient call us AFTER the doctor slices and dices the tongue- and when things don’t go as planned , the doctor who is not well versed and or trained in proper frenulum release techniques (hence why no therapy before), moves the problem to “well now you should do tongue therapy.” Then we have to tell them the bad news. It sucks. NO. This isn’t how it works. If you feel that you suspect you may have a tongue tie- find a well versed and qualified professional who has further education and training in : Orofacial function Tongue, lip, and cheek restrictions Airway health Sleep At the least. This professional can be a licensed dental hygienist, occupational therapist , physical therapist and or a speech pathologist. Do yourself a favor and skip wasting your money , time, and pain of going through a procedure where you may come out worse than when you went in. A tongue tie release is a PROCESS not a quick procedure. #tonguetie #tongue #breathing #tonguerestingposture #jawpain #sleep #anxiety #tension
