One of the most eye-opening things I ever learned about the body was this connection. When I started seeing people get their top permanent retainers off and their neck pain instantly dissolve in many cases, I was blown away. Getting a top retainer is a very common strategy post-braces removal because it holds the teeth in place and forces them not to revert back to their previous malignant. But here’s what no one asks - why do the teeth want to move back to where they were pre-braces? Teeth grow straight down, so if they’re not growing straight down and there’s crowding/poor alignment, that’s happening for a reason. Probably because you have: - A top and bottom jaw that are misaligned - An upper or lower jaw that isn’t developed enough - An uneven/asymmetrical jaw And so many more potential considerations. The unfortunate reality is that most dentists just care about straightening your teeth, not why your teeth aren’t straight in the first place. These permanent retainers are basically gripping your upper jaw together, desperately holding everything together. And that locks up structures, bones, and joints around it. Down the chain too. I want to finish by saying this isn’t me trying to step out of my lane - this is essentially me regurgitating what I’ve learned and observed from high level dentists (such as @alamposturaldds) and myofunctional therapists (such as @integrative_myo) who really know their stuff. If you think you may benefit from getting your permanent retainer off, it’s not as simple just pulling the trigger on it. You need to speak with someone who understands cranial bone and jaw movement/alignment in context with the rest of the body, not just any dentist who is primarily concerned with “straightening teeth”. —— #dentistry #teeth #tmd #tmj #cosmeticdentist #braces #jawpain #neckpain

If you’ve been dealing with headaches, neck pain, dizziness, or jaw discomfort, tight upper trapezius muscles might be adding to your symptoms. These muscles are directly connected to your neck, shoulders, and skull, so tension here can spread pain to other areas. 🎥 In this video, I’m showing you 3 ways to stretch and release your upper traps to help ease discomfort. While these stretches can provide relief when this muscle is the actual source of pain, they don’t address why it’s tight in the first place. Often, posture, compensations, or stress patterns are the root cause. 💡 Use these stretches to feel better in the moment, but don’t forget: to fix the bigger picture, it’s all about uncovering and addressing the underlying reasons for the tension!

Do you experience daily dizziness, and you have stiffness or pain in your neck? Have you also been to all sorts of doctors and they tell you the tests are negative and you don’t have a vestibular issue? Or maybe you do have a vestibular issue that should’ve went away ? Well, there are three parts to the vestibular system, which includes vision, inner ear and proprioception. Proprioception means there are receptors in your tissues that tell you where your body part is moving in space. When this information is erroneous, due to restrictions in conversations, it sends miss information to the brain causes dizziness. Very commonly, we find that the neck is a large part of dizziness issues, especially with all the traditional vestibular treatments or tests by your ENT neurologist and other doctors come back negative. Typically this feels like persistent, ongoing discomfort versus big, dizzy events, that the debilitate your day. Instead, it’s just an ongoing discomfort, that impacts quality of life. In this video, I explain that and then demonstrate a three-step process you can use to start the recovery process . #dizziness #vertigo #vestibular #vestibularmigraine #dizzy #headacherelief #migrainerelief #tmj #tmjdisorder #ent #neurologist
Do you experience fullness in the ear? Maybe it feels like it’s clogged or even hurts sometimes but the ENT says nothing’s wrong with it? Well, the jaw and neck are also culprits of ear issues. The deep neck flexor, also known as as longus colli has been shown to produce ear fullness. This muscle specifically acts on the positioning of the neck which can dictate jaw positioning. And the jaw, butts right up against the ear, making it one big loop. In this video, I demonstrate a simple stretch you can do to get relief now. Keep in mind that eustation tube problems or TMJ problems can also feel like an earache, further making it necessary to rule out or in the muscle muscles of the jaw. Another very important part of the process is seeing an ENT or audiologist to rule out actual ear dysfunction. #earache #tmj #jawpain #tmd #ent #dentist #massagetherapy #tinnitus #hearing

12 days of Proactive Pelvic Tips: Day 7🎄❤️ Your jaw tension might have more to do with your pelvic floor than you think. Your body is connected head to toe by a web of fascia, muscles, and nerves. If you’ve ever dealt with TMJ discomfort, neck pain, or pelvic floor issues, it’s time to think BIG picture. Start at the top, and your body will thank you down to your toes. SAVE if this blew your mind. 🤯 #pelvicfloorphysicaltherapy #pelvicfloorexercises #pregnancyfitness #tmj #tmjrelief #pelvichealth
Is your jaw stiff? Do you have trouble opening all the way? Maybe when you yawn or attempt to eat a large piece of food you can’t quite open wide or it really hurts when you do? Well, most people automatically assume it’s the muscle and therefore they need to massage it. But very very commonly when there is stiffness, it’s a joint issue NOT a muscle issue. A muscle issue will feel achy and painful and like there’s an uncomfortable light stretch occurring when moving but rarely does it result an actual stiffness or limited motion. Therefore, if your solution to jaw stiffness is massaging the muscle, you’ll be in a cycle of temporary relief and regression back to stifness. In this video, I demonstrate to strategies that can be completed to start mobilizing the joint capsule of the TMJ itself to start actually relieving the root cause of stiffness. #tmj #tmd #tmjdisorder #tmjtreatment #jawpain #dentist #dentistry #neurologist
Do you experience fullness in the ear? Maybe it feels like it’s clogged or even hurts sometimes but the ENT says nothing’s wrong with it? Well, the jaw is a very common culprit of ear issues. And specifically when it comes to a clogged fullness, feeling the medial pterygoid muscle can contribute to it. You see when the medial pterygoid has spasms in it it does not let the tensor veli palatini do its job which allows eustachian tube to dilate which relieves inner ear and sinus pressure. In this video, I demonstrate a simple release you can do to get relief now. Keep in mind other symptoms such as an ear ache that feels literally exactly like an earache and even tonight as can be causing to jaw or TMJ also. Do you experience ear pain, ear aches, ear ringing, pressure, fullness in the ear? Have you been to the ENT, audiologist, neurologist… And all the doctor say nothing’s wrong? Well, this all increases the likelihood that it’s a TMJ disorder. You see the TMJ butts right up against the ear canal and can cause many ear symptoms. If you also experience any type of jaw discomfort, even neck pain or headaches, it could increase the likelihood this is a jaw issue. In this video, I discuss a quick assessment you can complete to identify if this is a temporomandibular disorder. The final question asked if any of the following make the symptoms BETTER or WORSE. What that means is that if any of the movements describe impact in any way to make you feel better, or to make you feel worse that still means it can be a TMJ issue because movement of the JAW impacts your symptoms, and that’s the bottom line. #tinnitus #ent #earache #tmj #tmd #tmjdisorder #dentist #denstistry #neurologist
Click the link in my bio to find my Root Cause Assessment, to help figure out what’s causing your Head, Neck or Jaw problems. Do you clench or grind your teeth? Or if you’re not positive that you do, here would be some other signs…. Jaw, pain, side of head, headaches, temple, pain, sore teeth, ringing in the ears or neck pain. We also see dizziness and brain fog in chronic clench or grinders. Heres what you can do about it. First of all, the positioning of our teeth and jaw can increase or decrease the likelihood that we grind which is why the resting jaw posture is so important. Another important thing to consider is ways to breathe properly to down regulate or cool off our body and entire nervous system. Also featured in this video is a strategy before bed that I’ve been using with clients to allow their muscles of the head neck and jaw as well as entire system to relax, decreasing the tendency to clamp down at night. One other thing not mentioned in the video that is important to consider is to always be using a night guard to protect your teeth. Give the strategies a try and let me know how it goes! #dentist #dental #tmj #tmd #tmjdisorder #teethgrinding #dentistry #jawpain

Do you clench your teeth? Do you also know that you have postural issues along with potential neck pain, jaw, pain, or upper back stiffness? Well, this video, I explain how these secondary issues can actually induced clenching in the teeth, and which muscles to stretch/strengthen to get you into a better position, reducing tooth contact. You see the more freeway space you have or space between the teeth. The less contact occurs, does reducing the desire to clench. Try out the stretch for your superficial neck flexors and strengthening exercise for the deep neck flexors to start realigning your posture, creating more space in your mouth and decreasing the desire to clench. #tmj #tmjdisorder #tmd #nightguard #dentist #dental #myofunctionaltherapy #dentistry
