That was a close call 🤯 Over the weekend, my opponent attempted a nice arm spin takedown. It was timed well and caught me off guard.  Thankfully, I instinctively posted my arm to the floor.  Face planting at that angle and velocity would have sucked.  *Notice I posted with my forearm vs my hand.  Posting with a straight arm at that velocity could cause serious damage as well. Jiu Jitsu Mobility (Knee on Belly Solo Drills) 1) Side to Side KOB Transition. 2) KOB to Reverse KOB Transition.  Key Points: 1) Put weight into your hands.  Shifting weight to our upper body makes our lower body more mobile and vice versa.  2) Bring your knees together before windshield wiping your legs. 3) If the split squat position is too difficult, you can do these exercises with your knee on the floor. Hitchhiker Escape Solo & Partner Drill There’s a point when you know your opponent is going to break your hand grips and begin extending the arm.  It’s important to realize this and instead of resisting the arm being extended, which is a losing battle, begin the process of turning your thumb to the floor and getting your arm to their head side hip.  As you’re doing this, look away from your opponent, bridge and shoulder walk to your knees.  Once you’re on your knees, don’t be in a rush to raise your head, which can result in getting caught in a triangle.  Instead, keep your head low and focus on clearing your arm. Jiu Jitsu Movement (Open Guard V Frame Hip Escapes)  Start with both feet on the wall and get your hips off the ground.  This simulates your feet on your partner’s hips.  Hip escape one side at a time connecting your bottom elbow to your bottom knee.  This creates the V frame. Creating Space using De La Riva Hooks: 1) Reverse De La Riva: This hook is applied when our partner looks to connect their shin to our cross side hamstring, usually going for some type of knee slice pass.  Our inside leg creates the reverse DLR hook and our outside leg becomes a post on our partner’s hip. When our partner begins to put pressure forward, we can use our foot on the hip to create space.  2) De La Riva: This hook is applied when our partner looks to connect their shin to our same side hamstring, usually going for some type of folding pass.  Our outside leg becomes the DLR hook and our inside leg posts on the inside of their same side leg (above their knee).
