Everything’s NOT fine. If you don’t know a language, stop posting music covers. ASL is its own language with a culture, community, and history. For music interpretation we do it conceptually NOT word for word, that’s English leaning to PSE which isn’t a language but a dialect-like tool. Learning your signs wrongly and not turning to the deaf for help is ableist. Blocking and mocking deaf/hoh people for OUR language protection because of all the oralism and audist trauma we’ve gone through is straight up wrong, insensitive, and disrespectful. If you want to monetize it, at least pick up on a bunch of ASL courses and learn the history/get certified, then we talk. 🤦🏻♀️It’s not that we don’t want you to learn, it’s so much more than that we want you to learn it while also keeping in mind reliable sources and culture/history. *Don’t come at me if my sounds ever not match my lip syncing, I’m trying. A lot of the times I’m memorizing and counting in my head to try and make it match when recording cause I can’t hear it (especially if not wearing the hearing aid).* Deaf people can speak, some like to and some don’t. Sometimes I perfer signing over speaking and sometimes simcoming or respond speaking. Either way, language first. Always keep in mind I’m still deaf (hard of hearing), I don’t have a deaf accent and many deafies also don’t. That doesn’t mean they’re faking or aren’t deaf or deaf enough! It just means we still have our vocal cords. Deaf accent or not is still deaf enough! Hearing aids, CIs, or nothing still deaf enough! Fluent or not in ASL, still deaf enough!
