Thank you for 4 years of color match adventures. I found my community and purpose through sharing art and connecting with you. I'm not clear what's happening with the TikTok ban, but I wanted to take a look at how far we've come together–you and I. What started out as color match swatches turned into fully-fledged illusion paintings. Together, we've accomplished: -Over 1700 videos on TikTok -Hundreds of color matches -Adventures spanning Western New York and 3 other states We've brought attention to the worth of nature and conserving it through viral videos highlighting natural gems. You've helped me advocate for the environment through supporting my videos. Thank you for all your support, especially in the early days when I was still building my skills. Your warmth and encouragement fueled me to keep going and improving. I'm continuing to post on other platforms, so you can find me @lisacornwellart. It always tugs at my heartstrings to take down the illusions. If these paintings were human, I’d compare them to a kid digging in their heels, not wanting to leave the playground. In the end, it’s like ripping off a bandaid. I close my eyes, brace myself, and move the illusion. Doing so means admitting I’m finished and accepting that I’ve done my best, often under challenging lighting conditions. No more "final touches"; it's time to move on to the next illusion. In this case, the illusion almost looked better after I initially moved it. The sun had shifted during filming, causing some haze on the painting. After I moved it, the new position reduced the sun glare, and it was in a better direction. It’s always amusing for me to see how the painting looks once moved and whether it still matches the surroundings. Thank you for your support and for spending time with me on Lake Erie. I’m excited to share some photos of the process and results soon. Wishing you the best and brightest New Year! I’m looking forward to all the illusions and adventures we’ll share together in 2025. 2024’s best illusion paintings! This year was incredible, and I’m so grateful for your support. Let's look back on the year's adventures and our most realistic illusions, some nearly invisible! The illusions are mostly in chronological order, so you'll see how my skills evolved over the year. Your encouragement motivated me to grow and make them more seamless than ever. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. I'd like to thank and recognize the fine art collectors who collected my original paintings as well as limited-edition prints this year. Your support made it possible to continue painting, producing content, and creating a safe online space where we can all enjoy art and nature. I'd also like to thank everyone who liked, commented, or shared my content—thank you, sincerely. It means a lot, and your support has been an important part of growing this community. Illusion process highlights at Woodlawn Beach! Earlier, I shared a quick before-and-after of this illusion, and now we're going to look at the process in more detail. The dune grasses are complex in texture, color, and shape, so it can be intimidating to know where to start when painting them. My solution was to work in layers, building up the textures. It felt like weaving a tapestry, and I loved watching it come together. These American dune grasses play an essential role in stabilizing the sand at Lake Erie, preventing erosion and protecting the land from the harsh lake effect snow. Despite their important role, they're fragile and can easily be damaged by human activity. I hope this video showcases their beauty and environmental significance. 🖼 Do you love the soft greenness and texture of these grasses? I daydreamed about magic growing up, so it’s no surprise that illusions are my favorite form of art as an adult. My paintings are like little sprites or fairies, blending in with nature. I imagine they'd be giggling when you finally spot them. 🧚‍♀️ There are so many ups and downs in the world, and I hope my illusion videos offer you a moment of escape–a little glimpse of nature that makes you feel like you're there in person. These daily trials make it even more important to surround ourselves with art. I have a few favorite paintings on my own walls, and they inspire me every day. To acquire this original oil painting, visit my online gallery. It has been varnished, archivally framed, and is ready to offer you a peaceful mental retreat to WNY's forests whenever you see it. 🏞 Thank you for your support and take care, friend. 💗 Lisa Cornwell © Lisa Cornwell Fine Art. Illusion Process: Tillman Wildlife Management Area, Clarence, NY. This painting was more complicated than it may appear, with many layers being necessary to capture the foliage's texture. I don't pick the easiest part of the landscape to paint–I paint what I think is prettiest, most significant, or what I'm currently studying. In this case, I was deliberately working on advancing my leaf painting skills. 📍 Our location today is Tillman Wildlife Management Area, a 235-acre protected area with diverse habitats. While I painted, I had a bunch of critters keeping me company, including toads that were hopping at my feet. I'm glad Tillman provides safe refuge for not only the animals but the native plant species. 🖼 Painting is my passion, and while it may be tempting to keep these paintings, it brings me more joy to share them with others. I archivally frame my paintings and offer them on my online gallery. Visit my online gallery to acquire this piece or learn more about my process. Thank you for spending time in nature with me. This match highlights the importance of dune grasses in protecting Lake Erie’s ecosystem. They hold the sand in place, preventing erosion, but are delicate and need to be preserved from human foot traffic. The morning I filmed this, I came across an old family photo from around 100 years ago, taken near this beach. It reminded me of my family's connection to the area, so I chose this spot as a tribute to both their love of the beach and my own ties to Western New York. When I pick a location, there’s often a personal significance behind it or a connection I have with the subject matter. It’s always inspiring to hear your stories in the comments about places that hold meaning to you. Synesthesia isn’t only “music as color”—it comes in many forms, and for me, it shapes my relationship with colors, textures, words, music, numbers, and more. When I think about colors, I feel specific twitches in my jaw that correspond to qualities like depth, value, and brightness. These sensations help me decide how to adjust and mix paint to match the colors that surround me. I've had these jaw twitches my whole life and wondered if they were something every human experiences. Recently, I was talking with my husband and came to the realization, “You don't feel the sunset's colors in your jaw too?” That sparked my research into synesthesia and exploring the types I have. Synesthesia can be a helpful tool, but it's not the reason for my success. My art comes from hard work, and I'm certain I could still achieve positive results if I didn't have it. However, I'm grateful that it enhances my understanding of color. Sometimes I wonder if life would be easier without it, as it can be overwhelming. I'd describe it as having an extra set of senses that I can't turn off. I’m grateful to have had the opportunity to share more about my relationship with color with you. Thank you for your support as I grow my color matching skills. With my Tillman illusion painting! Swipe if it's not clear where it is. > This painting is available on my online gallery. It's had an archival frame custom made for it. The brush stroke and flecks of yellowy gold really stand out to me for this piece. They remind me of twinkling lights. The Tillman Wildlife Management Area is a very special place for nature watching. Not only are there plenty of animals, but it's a great place to go and observe the shift in seasons.
