Imagine painting two self portraits of yourself, and then one of them end up looking more like your sister than you. This is why I called these 2 “Sisters”, because the blue one looks a lot more like my younger sister (who I’ve always been told we look alike). I could have made the necessary changes to the face to make it resemble mine a little bit more, but I chose to keep it the way it was because I love the sentiment of knowing that me and my sister share a similar face. I used to hate that as a kod searvhing for her own identity, but now i adore this and cherish this. This was a fun study, and even though self portraits seem a bit conceited to others, let me ask you this: “Who else is going to paint all the art of you, if not you?” I think it’s healthy to paint a self portrait every now and then (if not as often as possible) because it reflects the mind and the phase in an artist’s life; where they are at mentally during that time. And, at this very moment in my life, I am finally at a level of confidence and discipline to appreciate myself more to actually make completed self portraits of my current self (These reference photos are taken same day as the painting). This has been a journey that has taken me over 15 years, to get to this point. But I’m glad I arrived to this final destination. There are no excuses to not try to make Art, the only excuses that you don’t want to. Otherwise, you always have to you to rely on when you want to make more art! I hope this post inspires others to create more art of themselves as well!
