It is important to realize that the current suicide rates among men are alarming and it is disheartening to see that many women seem to be indifferent or ignorant to the seriousness of this issue. Unfortunately, many men struggle with society's expectations of masculinity and stoicism, which can lead them to feel like expressing their emotions is a sign of weakness. They may bottle up their feelings and struggles in an effort to conform to these societal pressures. As a result, many men feel unable to reach out for help or support when they are in distress, which can in turn lead to suicide. It is crucial for women to recognize the severity of this issue and to start listening and showing empathy to men who may be struggling. We need to create a culture that encourages men to open up and seek help without fear of judgment. This requires us to challenge traditional gender expectations and break down the stigma around men’s mental health. We can start by educating ourselves about the signs of depression and suicidal thoughts, listening to men’s feelings without judgment or dismissal, and connecting them with resources and support.
