Training is so much Yin & Yang.. What you don’t see is that right before this I was having him practice spinning around in front AND behind me to either side. While we are practicing proofing his behaviors by alternating between them, they are all very similar, so what I was doing semi-set him up for failure. Laughing and not providing his “nope” marker when he did the incorrect thing simply told him he probably did the right thing just there. So when I reset him, he did it again. The second time I gave the “nope” marker and managed to keep my face relatively blank. But I didn’t want him practicing the incorrect behavior again, so I helped him out with a clear lure. Then marked the completed behavior as correct, faded the lure, marked correctly again, and finally asked for the behavior. He did it and was rewarded for the correct rep. If our dogs keep making mistakes, guaranteed, most of the time, it is due to something we are or are not doing. We must clarify and provide support. These numbers are exact. …not really, but one of things I see people struggling with when they are looking for a complete behavior, is how many repetitions it truly takes. Every dog is different. Each situation is different. Behaviors are different. Motivation for each individual dog for each individual behavior is different. If you don’t like where your dog is at with a particular behavior, or they don’t perform the behavior well in new environments-DO MORE REPS AT HOME. How many hours do they say it takes to master a new skill? 10,000 or so? Imagine how many reps it takes for two beings to work together at a new skill…it takes a lot of trial and error. And even when it is looking better, it take SO MANY repetitions to really make it good. And even more with distractions. And even more in new environments. This is why patience and consistency may be THE most crucial thing in dog training. Slow down. Put one foot in front of the other. Story Time 🐮 What happened to the Moolander? First off, the Moolander is mine. I bought it November 2023 and had it built into the Moolander while I was on Tour spring of 2024. Some stuff was sponsored on the build. Yes. So there’s that. I saw some of y’all’s comments. Last July my world fell apart, again, and I ended up going off the deep end. Quite literally. 😅 The first of many events I was booked at I did my first barrel race. Called myself out when I was initially asked if I was doing it that I was gonna roll it cause I had sassys on it. Probably jinxed myself but whatever. I’ve been on stage in front of thousands of people singing my music but that rush doesn’t compare to how heavy my heart was pounding in my chest that first run when I rolled. I placed 3rd with my second run tho so duck it. 🤘🏼 Anyway, my dumba** thought I was ab to walk off the cow. Why I thought that, who knows, but that’s what went through my head. I knew better, but hey, my whole brand is #IAintShit right? Haters gonna hate. 🤣🤘🏼 Ok so that’s where it starts. I hurt my leg. Bad. But my diddi ain’t raise no bish so no one knew. That was a little around 1pm. By 3am I had a lot of Dr Pepper compensating for my leg and was in a hole I had no business being in. With someone on the back at that. That’s all my bad. I thought I heard go left and so I went left. I shouldn’t have went left. The Moolander started rolling and I jumped off to try to save it. By time I went to the switch it was literally seconds too late. I had already ducked up again. 🤦🏻♀️ We got the water buffalo wanna be looking Moolander out the hole and back up to the front and my dumba** went straight to bed and cried myself to sleep. Since my duck up I decided that instead of rebuilding the motor, I wanted to just buy a brand new motor. So I bought a brand new motor. 🙃 The Moolander and myself will be back in action this year… y’all can catch me on the stage and in the mud.
