I hid my diabetes for over 10 years…Now I show it proudly. Here's what helped me: I didn’t talk about my diabetes or mention my diabetes for over a DECADE…. and there were 2 main reasons why. 💉The stigma. I was ashamed of others' opinions of me. I had some negative experiences growing up, assumed to be different, and rejected from groups. 💉I didn’t want to be asked a trillion questions from people seeing my technology and then told how to live my life and deal with all of the ignorance. However, there were 4 things that helped me to break out of this to the point where I will gladly show my technology in public and couldn't care less if it’s seen or not. 🩸Loving myself for myself. 50 Cent said it best “I am what I am, you can like it or love it” and just embracing that diabetes is a part of me and part of who I am. 🩸Reframing it as the best thing that could have happened to me. Sounds corny, but by finding the positives in something that can bring so much darkness onto your life, like being so much more in tune with my body, paying more attention to my nutrition and my overall health, overcoming this adversity, I was able to make it something that was a motivator instead of a detractor. At the risk of this post being too long, comment HIDDEN below and I’ll message the rest.
