The Temptations - Get Ready | Live, Shivaree (1966) Fee-fi, fo-fum, goodbye 2024, 'cause here come 2025! Happy New Years Eve, Temptations fans! We're gonna take back when @The Temptations performed "Get Ready" on Shivaree in March 1966. Can we all agree, 2024 has been one hell of a year and most definitely a rollercoaster to say the least. As for The Temptations, it was a great year. The Tempts really showed out this year by appearing on multiple shows and touring all throughout. We all got to give props and thank God we still have the original Temptation, Dr. Otis Williams to stick around carrying on the legacy at 83 years old. Not to mention that "The Way You Do The Things You Do," which was their very first hit that sparked their momentum and "My Girl" being their first #1 song that took them to legendary status marked its 60th anniversary this year! Also, that timeless classic reached one billion streams on @spotify! Two of those great songs put those guys on the map and became even more as of today. For me and this page, it surely was a good one. Y'all have shown so much support for this page since my original one got taken down a year and a half ago. This shows y'all that no matter how many times you get knocked down, there's always a way to get back up. Let's continue this ride for 2025 and continue the Temptations ongoing legacy! On this day, @The Temptations released their #1 hit smash "Just My Imagination (Running Away With Me)" 54 years ago! - Swipe left to learn the story⬅️ Today Temptations fans, is the 54th anniversary of The Temptations all-time classic "Just My Imagination (Running Away With Me)!" It was released today back in 1971 and later on became another #1 hit, as well as becoming their very first platinum record. The story behind this classic is one of my favorites to hear every now and then. Around this time, Eddie Kendricks time with the Temptations was slowly coming to an end. By then, he had personal issues with his bandmate and defacto leader Otis Williams and didn't like how Motown was handling their money. Paul Williams was struggling with health issues due to his sickle cell disease causing him in a lot of pain and alcohol usage to numb it. The road was also coming to a close for Paul as well. Norman Whitfield and Barrett Strong came up with the song in 1969 but they shelved it due to the psychedelic run the Temptations were on at the time. Thankfully, they brought it back when "Unite The World" didn't make the top 30, which was another psychedelic record. During the recording of "Just My Imagination," Otis, Paul, Dennis, and Melvin laid down the background vocals and Eddie ended up staying at Motown all night to record his lead part. The song was released and blew up the charts, eventually becoming another #1 hit song. A few months after its release and reaching the top of the charts, Eddie Kendricks quit the group and went solo. Shortly after, Paul Williams retired from performing due to his health declining. You can say, they both left the Temptations on top. Happy 54th anniversary! The Temptations - Lady Soul | Live, Johnny Carson Tonight Show (1986) Today Temptations fans, I want to share with you this rare performance of ‎‎@The Temptations singing their hit song "Lady Soul" on ‎‎@Johnny Carson Tonight Show in 1986! Ain't nothin' like an 80s classic, right?! Ali Woodson did his thing on their hit song "Lady Soul" from their "To Beg Continued" album. The Tempts sure kept the groove going on all throughout the 80s. I always call that timeline "The Comeback Era" of the group. I wish there was more footage of them performing this song, as it's not just one of my favorites but many of their fans. The Temptations at the railyard in Detroit; circa 1969. What's going on, Tempts fans?! Today I want to share with you this classic photo of @The Temptations posing at the railyard in Detroit back in 1969. Heads up for tomorrow: Tomorrow will be the 54th anniversary of The Temptations iconic #1 hit song "Just My Imagination (Running Away With Me)!" By celebrating its anniversary, I will do the usual by telling the story with videos including the last original member Dr. Otis Williams in his words. That song was surely the late Eddie Kendricks' finest moment. Till this day, nobody has been able to sing that song like he did. Including the late Paul Williams one liner "Every night, on my knees I pray...dear Lord." It's crazy how this was actually their very first platinum record. Get ready! The Temptations hanging out while having some tea; circa 1975. Today Temptations fans, I want to share with you this rare photo of @The Temptations just hanging out while having some tea around 1975! This was most definitely around the time Glenn Leonard had just became their newest tenor. I like photos like these of the guys just hanging out and not performing. It shows no matter who's in the group, the bond will always stay stronger than ever. Brotherhood was one of many things that stood out throughout the group's history. How cool is it seeing the Tempts being pictured with one of our Presidents?! I know some of y'all are going to ask why there are four instead of five members. Rain To Disguise The Tears: Rodger Penzabene (The Man Who Meant Every Word He Wrote & Took His Own Life) - ⬅️Swipe left to read Today Temptations fans, I wanna touch on a topic that many of us are familiar with. This is a very sad topic to bring up that involves a man, who was so broken by his own wife and could only express his pain through the lyrics he wrote. "Sunshine blue skies, please go away. My girl has found another and gone away. With her went my future, my life is filled with gloom. So day, after day I stayed locked up in my room. I know to you it might sound strange, but I wish it would rain." Those were the words a 22 year old man named Rodger Penzabene wrote to express his broken heart. @The Temptations hit song "I Wish It Would Rain" was a song that the young man truly felt at the time. His wife broke his heart when he found out she was having an affair behind his back. The song was released in 1967 on the same day "My Girl" was released a few years prior at the time. A week after its release, Rodger Penzabene took his own life on New Year's Eve. Before his untimely death, he co-wrote another hit song expressing his feelings with "I Could Never Love Another (After Loving You)," which was released months after the incident. Tomorrow will be his death anniversary, but we will celebrate his songwriting talent today and appreciate his work for giving us two timeless Temptations classics. He will forever be missed. Rest in peace, Rodger. Temptations Forever. If any you ever delt with depression, or had bad thoughts, please seek out for help and get better for yourself. On this day, @The Temptations released their fifteen studio album "Solid Rock" 53 years ago! Swipe left to learn some info ⬅️ Today Temptations fans, we're gonna celebrate the anniversary of The Temptations classic album "Solid Rock," as it was released today back in 1972! This was the very first album to feature two of their newest additions, Richard Street and a young 20 year old Damon Harris. As we all know, 1971 was one of their most difficult years during their success. Founding members Eddie Kendricks and Paul Williams left the group a few months apart for different reasons. Eddie would follow the same steps David Ruffin had done and moved on as a solo artist while Paul followed doctor's orders and retired from performing due to his declining health shortly after. Richard would replace him permanently and Damon became Eddie's official replacement after Vibrations singer Ricky Owens failed to fill in the shoes. Many of us know that Richard Street was a familiar face. He was with Otis and Melvin, including co-founding member Al Bryant in the very beginning when they were known as The Distants. During the recording of "Solid Rock," Paul Williams only managed to record one song off the album. That song would be their re-recorded version of "It's Summer," which didn't make the top 40 as a single. It would be the last recording Paul Williams would do with the Temptations. The album was a success, as it peaked at #1 on the US R&B chart and #24 on the @billboard 200. It also featured some classics, such as, "Superstar (Remember How You Got Where You Are)," "Take A Look Around," "Stop The War Now" and "What It Is?." On this day, @The Temptations released their nineteenth studio album "A Song For You" 50 years ago! Today Temptations fans, we're are gonna celebrate the 50th anniversary of The Temptations classic album titled after their cover version of "A Song For You!" This album is one of my absolute favorites by the group and it still holds up after all these years. Here are some facts to know about the album: This was the final album to feature the late Damon Harris. He was fired shortly after the album's release due to making unprofessional comments during one of their shows. He was replaced by DC native Glenn Leonard, another great tenor who lasted nearly a decade with the Temptations. This was the first album The Temptations released without Norman Whitfield as their main producer and Jeffrey Bowen took over the position. @Lionel Richie, former member of The Commodores at the time helped produce the track "Happy People" off the album, which is also one of their hit singles. Tell me in the comments your favorite song off of "A Song You!?" Happy 50th anniversary!
