You need these supplies to start seeds indoors T8 or T5 LEDs Lights Seed Trays Seed cell Inserts Heat Mat Growing Medium or a seed starting mix Water Fertilizer Vessels to pot up Oscillating fan There are a milllion different options for supplies to start seeds indoors. You can also do winter sowing with plastic containers and a growing medium. If you have a system that works for you- stick with it. I’ve had the most success with Soil blocking -6 weeks transplant dates but it can be done with caution for earlier starts. If Upcycling containers make sure there is proper drainage. Egg shells, ice cream cones, fiber pots make sure soil temperatures are warm enough to break them down. If you would support local stores that would be great. Check thrift stores too. You also need a fan. T8 link able LED - (does not produce heat and easier on your electric bill) lights, 10x20 trays, 6 or 9 pack seed cell packs, Dry amendment (keep the smell down), growing medium. Clear cups to pot up in once your plants are too big for the cells. Snip the bottom side for good drainage. Heat mat with a temperature dial. I have reused these supplies for years and years. USDA Growing Zones apply to perennial plants like rhubarb, strawberries, lilacs. Annual garden seeds and seed starting dates are based on frost dates (first and last). Zones reflect the coldest winter temperatures in an area for plants to survive. They do not let us know when our last anticipated frost date is.
